Good job presenting the installation. I just installed some coilovers on my E36 M3, so what you said matches what I experienced. I didn’t go for a slammed ride height, so I have the rear adjusters in place. One problem I had in the rear was replacing the left rear spring. My swaybar made contact with my exhaust (Supersprint), so I had to remove the swaybar and disconnect the rear exhaust hangers to let the exhaust drop down and allow the control arm to be pushed down for spring removal. Did you have a similar issue? One thing you didn’t talk about was making sure to set the rear shock length to the correct length to keep the springs from coming loose at full droop (or when jacked up off the ground). Given that you have no spring height adjusters in there, do the springs come loose at full droop? During your road test, it looks like the car rides really stiff. You’re bouncing in the seat. But I guess that with a slammed ride height, you can’t have too much suspension travel. At around 21:00, when you’re installing the front coilover…what happened to your steering rack boot??? It looks like it got twisted into a mess!
@M3NACE3 жыл бұрын
I did not have the Issue with the exhaust, I have a borla catback, not a supersprint, so it may differ. as far as the rear shock length goes, it depends on which coilover kit you have. the BC coilovers have a significantly higher spindle Hight, as in the suspension does not drop nearly as far when the car is jacked up, even with the spring perches removed fully for the slammed look the spring does not bounce around loosely in it's perch, however a set that has a long spring travel may do that, in which case you would need to adjust the shock body length to close the gap. as far as the adjustment goes, installing performance suspension will increase the stiffness of the car, but it is set to a very manageable damp rate for a street car. my drift car has BC coilovers as well, and I have set the coilovers up for drifting on smooth tracks, and its almost unbearable to drive on the street. these cars have excellent travel in the rear even when sitting as low as my M3 does, and I looked at some of the early 90's DTM E36 race cars for my stance, their race cars were even lower than my M3 is and were competitive back in the day.

My camberplate bolts are pretty jammed in position and my camber bars probably need adjusted (tyre shredders) and one of my bbs rc has a leaky weld :( gutted. She is sitting pretty though (328i slammed stance 40mm spacers back 25 front on original bbs rims mora metallic tan interior)

sounds mint my dude! what coils did you go for? rear shocks on droptops are super easy unless your top doesnt work.
@stevencameron31544 жыл бұрын
Just went for cheaps dude, the roads in glasgow are terrible iv already changed the shockies on the back 2wice before so just cheap and nasty coils. The top still works thankfully but tbh I'm having trouble with the driver window at the moment sticks then stops, then when I get it unjamed a need to do a window reset which is basically everytime I use it. Otherwise cars cool as a cool thing. I basically just buy a new set of cheap coilovers when the fronts give in.

@@stevencameron3154 damn man sounds brutal, the roads here are not that bad. ive had window problems for years on my droptop, they all work currently somehow, main reason i love the Sedans! we have 4 sedans and none of them have ever had a single window problem.
@stevencameron31544 жыл бұрын
@@M3NACE I had 2 coupes before my vert and they had zero window problems. I just love the style of the 2 doors though and even more so the verts now. The suspension should last about a year lol. I seen used hydraulics on ebay for about £1500 so maybe next year I'll see if I can come across something like that again. The window thing is my next fix this week lol rolling about with no door card on it just now :( and the leaky wheel. Got that welded last week but its not sealing properly so I'm on the hunt for 2 rc042s (not easy to find) as it has rc041s on every corner. Fun and games but totally worth it.

Wow that M3 looks sweet with the coilovers I have 1999 E36 323is 3 Series Coupe in show room condition I’m starting to add the coilovers soon , Headers with down pipes it’s running on 245/40/17 in the rear and 235/40/17 in the front but adding 10mm spacers on the rear cause it rubs light at times when I take a curve to sharp and quick . If anybody that done there E36 got any pointers I’ll highly appreciate it 🤟🏼

Great Video! Im rebuilding my 92 325is.Rebuilt the cooling system and it's time to rebuild the suspension. Back left side has a broken shock mount. I saw a plate they make to repair it. Has to be welded in. Have you ran into this problem? I'm going to put them on both sides before the other side gives out. Any suggestions for what brand coil overs? I'm not drifting just want quality parts on this rebuild. Thx

I like BC's run them on all the cars, street or track. ive heard broadway static coils are good, ive also heard that solowerks are good street coils but the welds dont like the track that much. as far as the shock mount problem, i havent ran into that issue. i would have it re-welded and run a rear strut bar, that should help with the stress distribution alot.

What are the benefits of a coil over? just that the stance looks better ? is it just to lower it? you did not elaborate. You said install them "because they are the best out there" what does that mean?
@M3NACE3 жыл бұрын
best way to lower it with good performance, stock suspension is usually designed for maximum comfort while having good performance and good clearance for bumps, potholes, and clearance for curbs ext. if you want to lower your car and increase the performance of the suspension, good quality coilovers are the best option. they allow maximum adjustability for damping while having adjustable ride height. the problem with getting a good spring and shock setup, like koni shocks and H&R springs, which it a pretty good street setup, is that the shock and the spring are not designed to be in harmony with eachother. if the spring is lower than the shock is designed to be, the shock will not have its full range of travel, and you can bottom out the shock, which can disrupt the car. coilovers like BC's, broadway static, or bilstein coilovers are designed so that the shock and spring can have maximum travel while having the car and any ride height you want, BC's are designed to be used on drift cars, where suspension system see's way more abuse than any "street" or "sport" shock will ever see, that's why i use BC's. coilovers like solowerks, megan, and even some shocks like koni's have reports of cracking on shock welds for the tabs that hold the spindle and sway bar together on cars that see drift and high regular abuse.
