Very strange ... I took both my M4 13" iPad Pro outside with brights turned fully up, and compared it with my M1 12.9" iPad Pro (that supposedly has 600 nits SDR brightness, versus 1000 nits on the M4) ... however, both displays appear identical in bright light. I'm not seeing the difference you are describing. I am being 100% honest ... I love the new M4 13" iPad Pro for its hardware, the new keyboard, the added functionality of the Pencil Pro and for its future proofing for upcoming Ai tools. But as far as the display goes, this new OLED display has pretty much identical brightness with the prior mini-LED screens, except for the small 'optical illusion' of the mini-LED screen having a lightly more 'blueish tone of whites' and the OLED screen having a slightly more "yellowish white tone". Both look great ... the blueish-white of the mini-LED screen might make the overall colours slightly less saturated, but digital artists and graphic designers might find the mini-LED screen to be more accurate and neutral. So other than the slight difference in "white balance" (which is subjective and is what's creating this slight 'optical illusion' of the new OLED screen being brighter, I can honestly say the difference is so slight as to be almost unnoticeable. Both screens are excellent. I use both iPads side by side on a daily basis and can confidently say that the mini-LED display is just as good, all this initial gushing over the OLED display is either 'exaggerated enthusiasm over this new toy' or an opportunity for a new video topic around the latest hype. After a few months when the hype settles down, most users will likely admit that both screens are pretty much equal. (I've also done comparison with UHD content and have to really look hard to find significant difference).
@nuggyfresh64306 ай бұрын
I'm genuinely confused how you could see no difference, so weird. Are you older? No offense I just honestly don't understand. It's almost twice as bright. I also have these exact displays (the new 13 inch and the M1 12.9) and I've also used them side by side and I just can't believe you would say they're the same.
@Duvdeve6 ай бұрын

@@nuggyfresh6430 ... I have spent years doing graphic design and digital art, working in all colour spaces (P3, sRGB, Adobe RGB, CMYK, etc) work with high resolution images and projects over 25 Gb per file (in PSB format) ... so am capable of distinguishing accurate colour and brightness without any issues or barriers (as your question regarding age suggests). I am just being totally honest that other than the M4 OLED display being calibrated with 'brighter whites' vs the mini LED screens having a slight 'blueish-white' tone (which then makes all colours appear slightly less saturated) ... but other than this, the actual brightness appears pretty much equal. I've done hours of side by side comparison, watching KZbin videos including HD ... I've compared the 2 screens watching Avatar - Way of Water, pausing on the exact same video frame on the 12.9" M1 mini-LED next to the 13" (standard glass) M4 OLED screen ... watching with Dolby Vision ... and only when I paused the video and compared very closely ... then I was able to notice a bit of sharper resolution on the OLED M4 iPad Pro screen when comparing the details of jewelry, braided hair and other small details. However, comparing both the M4 13" OLED (standard glass) iPad Pro or the 2021 M1 12.9" iPad Pro displays against my older 2018 12.9" older display ... the comparison is night and day. The older 2018 IPS LCD display appears far dimmer, and the whites appear almost 'tan' or 'sepia' by comparison to both the M1 mini-LED screen and the M4 13" tandem OLED displays. With the 2018 12.9 iPad Pro, the difference is extreme. But interestingly when viewing content at night, I often reach for this older model because it's 'easy on the eyes', in a dimly lit room ... so even that old iPad is still useful. But I bought the 2TB 13" M4 iPad Pro for the hardware, Ai handling, future proofing ... and love the keyboard and Pencil Pro ... so it's well worth buying ... but as far as the display goes ... it is subtle step up from the previous mini-LED displays.

Everyone saying there “good with their old iPad” should feel good about saying that. Apples hardware including the M-series chips are so good. Like why would anyone consider upgrading? I understand maybe it’s dependent on what you use your iPad for but judging by the thousands of comments saying the software sucks… then be happy there is no need to upgrade every 5 mins. Literally this year is just a nice screen and a faster chip that no one will hardly notice. When you make a purchase or an m- series Mac or m-series iPad the plan should be to keep it for years to come! @@HokutoShiinKen OLED from what we’ve seen doesn’t easily burn in if you’re driving the display panel efficiently. Some panels like the one used in Nintendo Switch can stay at high brightness at the same static image for months before burning in. With tandem OLED you have two panels working together which means bigger surface area per pixel so you don’t need to drive the panels using high power to get your ~500 nits. The lower brightness you use the less likely it will burn in so I’m confident this will not be an issue for me.

I found indeed it is brighter, better contrast and more punchy colours and of course buttery smooth. What I did not like is that it has quite a warmer tone, skins tone is not great. When I kept M1 and M4 Pro side by side it was quite evident - M1 I found more neutral and natural colours. That's tough call. I would say the M2 or M1 is a better deal. If you're not a creative professional, you wouldn't notice the difference. Watching KZbin, playing mobile games are not very intensive and a calculator can browse the web and open your mail so It's a tough buy if you don't have an excess of money laying around. ultimately you would have to ask yourself what you really do with it and then purchase an iPad based on that usage. If I could draw, I would definitely get either of these units :) lol

Thank you. Maybe in a year or 2, it will be worth the screen upgrade. The power doesn’t matter with iPad OS. I’ll hold out for more battery life on the Pro in future iterations. Apple usually listens to their customer's requests about 4-6 years later. The air should have been thinner, and the pro should have had more battery life.

If you own an iPad Pro with an A12X or A12Z chip and it’s still snappy and responsive, then you should keep it and enjoy it. If the battery health is not good then get another battery installed by Apple. This is especially true if you have an M1 or M2 Pro as these two previous gens are still overkill for iPadOS. Keep what you have and enjoy it.

Blacks are better, but Whites are much worse on OLED. Definitely a dirty yellowish look to my eyes comparing to my M1. In isolation it's probably fine, but running in sidecar with my MacBook Pro, the difference would be noticeable.

That's what I wanted to hear. Apple's miniLED was mind-blowing considering it had true black unlike the grays on typical LCDs. The colour accuracy is also great. Of course, with low light you'd have blooming which the tandem OLED doesn't have but man the older display needs due credit. Just last year every single tablet paled in front of a 12.9 inch iPad in display. Even the Samsung OLED with its high reflectivity was bad in front of the miniLED model.
@muhammadzahirsiddiqui7646 ай бұрын
I agree with the conclusion with some add-ons. Gaming / creativity -- no need to upgrade. Videos -- yeah, maybe if you use it in pitch dark. Productivity / Light workplace (meetings etc) -- makes more sense. Don't have one -- buy a MacBook air instead. 🤣

The M4 iPad speakers are good but terrible in comparison to the 2018/M1/M3 speakers, it wins in every other change apart from that but they really messed those speakers up. I guess Apple just assumes everyone is happy wearing AirPods all day now 🙄

Did you compare the lack off 5G antennas in areas where u get a perfect 5G coverage by those waves ?
@gileswhitaker96563 ай бұрын
Despite what he says, the screens in his videos look almost identical. I would even say there are less overblown areas on the M2 screens (in the cloud areas). On maximum brightness my M2 iPad Pro burns my eyes inside, so twice as bright sounds crazy, but if you like to work outside in bright sunlight using your iPad, I agree this would be useful. The camera position is the main thing that makes a difference, but overall going from the M2 to the M4 13 inch iPad Pro is a marginal upgrade that I will be skipping. I will upgrade for a larger screen for doing real work on, with more pixels, or a significant increase in performance, like double the M2's speed (~30% doesn't make much difference, in real applications). Also, get rid of the rounded screen corners - they just mean if you want to work in a rectangle, as 99% of professionals do, you lose resolution at the corners.

It may look slightly better with an hdr video but unless you have both. You will be happy with the mini led. People get fooled by new things. Mini led is still great. Honestly I feel that the iPad needs to have a proper purpose. Apple wants it to be a computer, and a magical piece of glass. But it can end up being neither of those. For example, the iPad is now too thin and can break REALLY easily. It has a computer chip, but you can't do computer things with it.
@nuggyfresh64306 ай бұрын
uhh do you have one? It doesn't break easily, at least compared to the thicker one last year (I have both). But, just so you know, plenty of people do computer stuff on it all the time, so I'm just confused what your point is? If you want a laptop, I invite you to get one, or wait for WWDC in a few weeks...

The refresh was flawless! The review was incredibly insightful, especially highlighting the display brightness difference in SDR and outdoor use, a crucial aspect for everyday iPad users. Your in-depth review highlighted the M4's powerhouse performance, capable of running Triple-A games at a stunning 60fps in 2K or an impressive 90 to 120fps in 1080p. The portable performance is just insane!

The graph in GPU performance wasnt bad at all. It only dipped less than 10% as opposed to "dropping dropping dropping". I honestly like this channel and their videos and charts but their narration is kind of biased a bit. Max overall does a better job among the two and doesnt overhype things a lot. What he is saying is true but exaggerated a lot.
@muhammadzahirsiddiqui7646 ай бұрын
Again, he mentions that it's just the 9c version kicking ass of M2 and "not even 10c". While their other video clearly showed that 9c/8GB Vs 10c/16GB was barely a difference. Maybe I'm missing something here but still I do believe that the narrative should be unbiased and logical instead of excitement and exaggeration. All that said, I still love this channel among many others. It's just feedback which hopefully will be taken positively.
