I just will launch you a small challenge: why don't you compare your MacBook Pro M1 Max (just like I have) and make a comparison with the same tasks e running the same programs at the same time with this new Mac Mini M4 Pro? I would love to see that. Thanks once more! Best regards from Portugal 🇵🇹 😉

Finally! Someone showing the M4 Mac Mini in real-world use! Everyone else is just running benchmarks, but that alone doesn’t say much. I was looking for someone actually using programs like Illustrator, Photoshop, or other graphic design software. The llama was a nice touch, too! It would be great to see some open-source AI image generator in action. I tried using my 2017 MacBook Pro with 16GB of RAM, and it’s just impossible. You know what would be even better? Trying the same thing with the Mac Mini M4 Pro version. Thank you so much for the vid. You got a new subscriber!

Nice to finally see audio production in these reviews. However, usually computers with 16 RAM handle well lots of tracks and playback. What really tells me how well the computer performs is the real time recording of a virtual instrument or a track with lots of active effects while having those tracks playing back. That’s a more real scenario that will tell me how well it handles recording without pre-rendering or disabling other tracks. Great vid! Thanks for this review, it was very informative!

@@AlexGTech There is a synth called Diva, by U-he, it has a high quality mode, stacking tracks with that is a good way to see how the CPU performs with virtual instruments. VPS avenger seems to be a CPU hog as well. And I think Arturia Pigments is as well. The other thing to test is symphonic instruments, as they are typically RAM-heavy. I can't remember if East West has a trial period. Spitfire audio typically has a lot of microphone options, so you can load a lot in to RAM.
@kongwee1978
@kongwee1978 10 күн бұрын
@@TheJonHolstein I have Serum. Serum is heavy for complex filter and effect. I can easily run 16 tracks with full chords. That is very enough power for my M1. I don't run heavy symphonic instruments. I used less than 1gig ram as I can unload unused sample and default cache setting. The only heavy stuff I tried in using Dolby Atoms in real time composing. It is super heavy. It is best to compose in usual multiple track multi channel first.
@DavidMateos56

Agreed, real time performance and latency is the most crucial performance metric for a "music computer". For playback you can always use larger buffer sizes to stress less your CPU. Almost every reviewer is only talking from the producer POV. In my case I'm more interested in this device's capabilities as a live performance machine. Large project files with different songs in it (let's say at least four), each song with ~10 or so MIDI tracks and half a dozen audio tracks, everything with high quality sounds and high quality effects, with BPM changes along the project that have to be tight, and many many parameters everywhere being modifiable live via MIDI messages, all while keeping the latency at its lowest, as close to real time as possible, without any cracks in the audio and without hiccups. It has to work smooth and tight in this scenario for a few hours. I'm not exactly confident.

I want to thank you for your video! The incorporation of music production in this review is great! Not a lot of reviewers do this on the base model. It's especially good to know how well the M4 chip holds up. I use an M1 base model Mac for music production, but I'm considering buying the M4 Mac mini. An M1 Mac is sufficient with some workarounds, but an upgraded Mac Mini M4 would deem these workarounds unnecessary. Rather than learning how to produce music yourself, I could create a realistic Logic project that you can use for your future reviews. When you use Logic without external plugins, it's easy to share and play projects from others.

Thanks for the video, Alex. I was originally considering the 32GB/1024GB model, but given my basic needs (office work and light gaming), I’ve decided to opt for the 16GB/512GB model and use the extra funds for an external NVMe Gen 4SSD. I believe this is a more cost-effective approach, as it offers better futureproofing. I can resell or trade in the base model in 4-5 years for a decent price, and the external SSD will be compatible with future Macs

Good video, nice to see a review like this. Like the modesty and honesty. To help give you a reference, even my M1 Pro can handle hundreds of tracks in Logic. For an audio test, I understand what you were trying to do with a "real world". I think an easier and more streamlined methodology would be to take one track with some type of load (Virtual Instrument, Wave file, etc), throw on an eq, compressor, then duplicate that track over and over. Then take and run the same test on different M series and Ram setups. So, same type test for M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max, M2, etc... to create a data spreadsheet for comparison between models. with the number of tracks (before logic says enough). Ie, say an M1 got 345 tracks, the M1 Pro got 423 tracks, M4 got 784 tracks.

Anyone who is interested using the M4 Mac mini for music production, as I hear this is faster than the M1 Pro in all major benchmarks. I have an M1 Pro with 16GB rams, in a normal project I use 30+ tracks with lot's of modern synth plugins + audio tracks with a bunch of effects on them. And it deals with everything easily. So an M4 Mac mini has to be even better and so a good choice for music production.

Right!? It's insanely good. Out of curiosity I just tried to render the same Blender scene I tried for this video, but using my maxed out M1 Max MacBook Pro with 64GB of RAM! It was 30 mins slower than the base Model Mac Mini. That is insane!

What I think is underrated about the Mac Minis is that you can trade them in, I think the M1 Mac Mini trade in is like £200 or so meaning you could upgrade your 4 year old PC for this one for only £400 which is great

Well my late 2012 mac mini can handle 5 browser windows with 15 tabs each without an issue. 16/512 upgraded. Not fast, but super stable.
@AlexGTech
@AlexGTech 9 күн бұрын
wow, 75 tabs!! That's not bad at all! I found some tabs take more memory than others and used websites that are varied enough, here is a list of some of them, may be worth seeing how many of these you can have as part of those 75 you have opened. I did have some hefty apps open like I said, Blender and Parallels with a Windows 11 VM running on it at the same time. So you can definitely have a lot more tabs than 40, but I thought 40 is a good number to still be able to work with 2-3 other apps. Here is the list of sites and how I used them: KZbin - Stream a video for continuous load. Netflix - Open to a show or movie for a similar load. Spotify - Stream music or a podcast. Amazon - Browse products. Apple News - Keep up with news headlines. Gmail - Open an email account. Twitter/X - Scroll through trending topics. Facebook - Open the home feed. LinkedIn - Open to your feed or profile. Google Docs - Have a document open for editing. Slack Web App - Join a workspace. WhatsApp Web - Open a chat for messages. Trello - View a project board. Asana - Have a project open for task management. Google Calendar - Open to your calendar view. Microsoft OneNote Web - Open a notebook. Reddit - Browse a high-activity subreddit. Quora - Read a trending question. TechCrunch - Open an article for tech news. Medium - Open an article on a relevant topic. New York Times - Check world news. Bloomberg - Monitor financial markets. CNBC - Open to current events. GitHub - Open a repository or project page. Udemy - Browse a course page. Coursera - Open to a course or lesson. Wikipedia - Open to a long article (e.g., “History of AI”). Stack Overflow - Open to a coding question. Notion Web - Open a workspace or document. Pinterest - Browse or view a board. 10 Additional Websites: Hacker News - Check top tech and startup news. BBC News - Open to global news coverage. Instagram Web - Scroll through your feed. Discord Web - Join a channel for community chat. Google Sheets - Open a spreadsheet for data editing. Imgur - Browse trending images. Google Maps - Search for a location and explore the map. Flipboard - Personalized news feed. Kickstarter - Browse trending projects. Dropbox Web - Open a folder with files.

The fans did reach 3,000 RPM when I was rendering that Blender scene. Funny thing is I recorded the audio and my reaction to it, but completely forgot to add it in the final edit 🙈 It's a gentle hum, way quieter than my M1 Max MBP. But you can definitely feel the hot air coming out and the sensors showed a quick cooldown from 95C to about 65C in less than a minute. Impressive!

Thank you and noted. ✅ For the LLM details: Llama 3.2 3B and 4096 token size. ✅ The Blender model I used, (705MB): blendswap.com/blend/29264. I just tried that same scene on my M1 Max MBP with 64GB RAM. It's half an hour quicker on the Mac Mini 🤯
