Partially disagree as the ssd they use is incredibly anemic and far too expensive for what you get compared to the latest and greatest available today, that drive, while it looks like a 2230nvme ssd, isn't and is proprietary and you couldn't switch it with better and more affordable off the shelf parts, furthermore, it only Topps out at 3,400mb per second or 3.4 gigabytes per second, were talking about speeds that would've been state of the art in 2010 to 2014 for a single ssd. Pcie gen 3 ssds top out around 3.4ish gigs per second, in 2024, we have full size pcie gen 5 2280 nvme ssds such as the crucial t705 which Topps out at a mind melting Sequential Write, 10,200 MB/s ; Sequential Read, 13,600 MB/s You could get a 4tb t705 with a nice heatsink already attached for literally 600 bucks and it would be better than their half attempt at sustainability all day, as well as it runs with this old ssd standard, imagine how much better it would be with 4 times the read write speed with that wonderful but definitely bottlenecked by the slower ssd m4 apus.... Guys, I do not think the storage is user replaceable. It will destroy Apples ladder profit levels like $200 for a $20 256Gb storage upgrade. It will be serialised or have security measures where the OS won't let you use off the shelf storage. Or Apple will nuke it with low performance and disable security features etc artificially. I hope I am wrong, someone tell me I am wrong after swapping it with a 2TB off the shelf SSD and benchmarking it.

Maybe mentioned elsewhere here or in other teardowns, but for those folks pissed at the bottom location of the power switch, since the ventilation slots are on the tapered sides of the base cover, a thin (1/2”?) circular piece of any material of your choice held on with a couple of dabs of Blu-tac putty could raise it enough to allow access for most fingers, and still keep the net height at under 3”.

It's not necessarily user-upgradeable - on reddit they're saying it's not technically an SSD, in that the controller is still on the logic board, so it's unlikely we'll be able to user-upgrade these. It could be to simplify Apple's logistics, so they don't need to make a logic board for each storage option, but can make a storage-agnostic one and just slap in the appropriate storage.

Highly unlikely, though they may redesign it to close to the new mini’s size. It might end up being as small but much taller. They can’t really discontinue it because the mini is still an entry to mid-level desktop while the iMac is only an entry-level. If they got rid of the Studio, they would have no more high end Mac desktops.

I don't think Apple put the SSD on a card for our convenience in any way shape or form.
