The MacBook Air will always have a huge advantage for audio recording. NO FAN. I record a lot with a microphone and a compressor on the channel strip in logic Pro and on heavier projects even a small amount of fan noise is very very audible through the microphone. Even the M1 Air is very powerful for music production. If you're into recording and you are a bedroom musician always go for the current Air model. You guys should get a different audio production test method. Instead of counting how many channels you can load in logic Pro just load up ONE channel and put plug-ins on that channel strip until it overloads. Single core performance is the most important thing in audio production.

I grabbed the same one for my business use for $899 at Best Buy in late November. It is just incredible for the money. Not sure why someone would spend an extra $600 more for a little larger screen and an extra 256gb ssd when M3 air 13 16gb/256 was that cheap. 2tb external SSD cost me $109 more.

Great comparison! Oddly I think the MBA 15 speakers sounded clearer on the video. Ultimately, there is no doubt the 14" brings more hardware and performance for $100. However, not everyone is editing 4k video or creating 3D models. For office-type productivity tasks, the 15.3 screen and portability make the Air a better choice for many.

15” is the Goldilocks size so MBA is the move for me. 14” is freaking tiny and the 16” pro is a boat anchor, plus Apple forces the extra cores on the 16” which makes it $500 more than the 14”. 15” MBP would be amazing.

Man I ordered the MBP 16 inch but I would have loved if there was a 15 inch MBP. I think Apple is worried that nobody would buy their 16 inch one hence they don't make it happen. But it would be such a nice product to have. The 14 inch one is pretty tiny (like you said) and reading text on it means unnecessary stress on your eyes.

To be honest i'm waiting for a real competitor to an X1 Yoga (Touch, 360 degree opening, cellular option and reasonable storage and RAM prices. Yes a Lenovo is also a pricy option. To get a real benefit over my M1 MBA 16/256, the major issue is NOT the single core and multicore performance, the real issue is currently the storage which prevents it from several tasks. Probably if i find a shop upgrading the storage for a reasonable price its the best option. So it is just a companion for my big desktop.

I think it makes sense to go for the pro, here in UK we have just a £100 difference in both, after some discounts/ deals the m4 pro is costing £1304 and m3 15" air £1205, however with the £100 difference you are getting a newer chip, better speakers, better screen, more ports and a pro laptop.

I bought the m3 air and returned for the m4 pro. I love the pro much more. I like the extra heft, the color (space black) and the speakers are so so much better so if you make music or love music. Also the extra inch on the screen makes a big difference honestly especially when using GarageBand and video editing software. I've yet to hear the fan everyone talks about it runs so smooth and is so efficient I haven't overworked it yet. I'm so excited for the webcam features too cause I work remotely.

Since the difference between M4 and M3 is only 100 USD, and it has better parameters, I think you can use it longer, I would buy the M4. Of course it's also true that most people don't need the power that the M4 has, the M3 is perfectly fine for youtube, netflix, word, excel, power point.

It would be interesting to test these laptops in clamshell mode. The only time I use my M1 16" Pro as a standalone, is when I was travelling for work. Otherwise at home or the office I used it in Clamshell mode with a dock and monitor. Im curious to see how thermals would react in this manner? Purportedly the laptops run hotter in clamshell mode? I use TG Pro to control the temperatures.

the m3 air is only 10 months old. Either an air or a pro can handle the workload you described. Only you can decided what's best for you though. I'd advise to go with whatever computer excites you the most.

Hi everyone. I need your opinion regarding my choice of main device for my everyday usage. My current main device is MacBook Pro M1 and it has "fallen". Unfortunately just before I could resell it. ( screen turned black and tech guys said the fan is not working too) So that aside, I am planning to go for MacBook Pro 14 Inch M4 base model. USD $1,599.00 on Apple store. However I am also wondering If it's "wiser" to get either a 13 inch ipadPro base model USD 1,299.00 on Apple store. or 13‑inch (M3 chip) MacBook air, Base model $1099 on Apple store. or the future M4 MacBook Air ? Thing about the MacBook Air is that it has no FAN and ...well.. Why does hardly any Ytuber address the terribly lame pixel refresh times on the MacBook Pro? Especially with the 14 model, the switching time b/w or g/g is about 70ms. The digital image content is regenerated every 8.3ms but the pixel need 8x the time to react...

Only rich youtubers change their computers every time new models come out, but professional users generally stick with their machines for longer. I know illustrators still using intel macs. I find my M1 fine it access my 8tb nvme drives faster enough, would I notice the thunderbolt 5 upgrade probably not. It's just becoming M numbers lately with no huge difference between them.

I think the 15 inch air is a little too expensive since they are 100 dollars apart, the 15 inch air has a lot worse screen, battery life, ports, all that, for me the M4 14 inch pro with its larger battery for 6 hours longer battery life, the display difference is huge also, the pro is 2x as bright at 1000 nits and over 3x for hdr and also having 120htz promotion is huge, i bought the M4 MacBook pro 14 inch, I don’t need a huge 15 inch laptop with a lot worse specs, it’s also around the same weight as the pro, I love the pro so much better, the display difference is shocking and the 120htz, the battery life and way more ports is well worth 100 dollars extra for the same specs for me

Hi! I’m running parallels on an M2 MacBook Air 16gb ram with the standard edition of parallels. I’ve only tested Left 4 Dead and it runs perfectly but after making it to the first safe house I often get this “assertions out of memory” window pop up and then the game closes when I close this window. I have about 260gb hard drive space. Is this about ram? I’ve tried to google the problem but I can’t seem to find this specific issue. Do you know what I need to do to fix this? Thanks 🙏

The pro is just too thick and the 14 inch is too small. The 16 inch would just be too heavy and bulky. 15 inch Air is the perfect size and weight. If they made the 16 inch 2mm thinner I would buy that instead.

Most people bitch and moan (understandably) about how much Apple overcharges for ram and storage upgrades, but then lament how much of an advantage the TB5 ports are on the M4 pro and Max models. I wonder how many of those people will actually buy a $500 TB5 drive? Suddenly the $360 upgrade (with veterans discount) for another 1TB of built in storage doesn't sound so bad.
