he glued the side view mirror back together and on his 750iL he didn't remove the other valve cover to remove the glue on the gasket lol
@M539Restorations4 жыл бұрын
What's lol there? Tabs are broken on the mirror cover, very common and I'm not gonna buy a new one and have it painted every time I come across this, takes too much time and time is everything. I used flexible glue so it can be easily removed again. I explained times and times about the 2nd valve cover, there is no need to replace it because it will literally never leak, what you didn't see is how much time I spent removing the first one to the point that I wanted to set the car on fire. I bent the cover and had to gently straighten it out after because the glue was that strong. If I went for the 2nd one, I'm risking more crap landing in the engine, possibly breaking the cover and that's more downtime for sourcing and buying parts. Trying to do what I do with the limited time I have and see how it goes. I always try to do things 100% and never skip essential parts, sometimes you have to think it through and decide if something is worth the effort. That wasn't.

Important tip doing regulators on e46. Before tightening the bolts holding regulator you need let the window go full way down with bolts finger tight then at bottom fully tighten the bolts. Also spray silicon lube into the channels around the window frame. I was constantly changing the same regulator until I did it this way.

I am a huge fan of your work. I'm a fellow IT professional, albeit with a few years on you! Started my mechanics life at 15 restoring my first car, a 1967 Triumph Herald. These days I turn spanners for relaxation and to keep me mentally stable! Just finished a few jobs on my new purchase - a 2005 E64 645Ci convertible - valve cover and associated gaskets, coolant transfer pipe, PAS/Dynamic Drive/Active Steering flush, water pump, thermostat, alternator bracket gasket, transmission fluid change and mechatronic seals, and engine oil and filter. Been fun, I love an old Beemer.

Man, you're a legend! This is day 3 as I'm changing a freaking starter on my Kia. xD The manual said it was supposed to be a 40 minute job. I've spent about 7 hours so far, and still need at least 3 to 4 more to get everything I took off installed again. Two bolts, they said. xD Had to take off all the air tubes and air filter assembly, the fan and all those stinky dirty connectors, and even then it's so freaking hard to access the area. When I watch your videos, everything looks so simple and clean, and when I get to work on my car - it's nothing like that. :) Really enjoying watching your work, thank you for all these great videos!
@The_Touring_Jedi4 жыл бұрын
Are you sure you have changed starter and not transmission? 7 hours job🤣🤣🤣
@MeOrNotMeWhoKnows4 жыл бұрын
@@The_Touring_Jedi 7 hours and not even finished yet. xD That thing is hiding under the intake manifold, and it's hiding so well that I can't really see it neither from the top, nor from the bottom. And there's a lot of other stuff blocking it from the front - radiators, the fan, cooling tubes, and multiple cables, all with weird clips attached in inconvenient places. Every step is difficult since I'm doing it for the first time, and there's a lot of steps. :) Doing it the 2nd time, it would probably take me about an hour, two at most, since now I know how everything is connected, but not the first time - every single part or connector a few minutes to figure out how to remove/disconnect it, and it adds up to hours and hours in total. It's just nice to watch videos like this where someone knows what they're doing, likes to do that work, and presents it in a fun way, after an evening struggling with my own repairs in the garage.

Its an e36 with 272,000 km and nothing was changed on it EVER except for the Luftmassenmesser. Meaning, other than brakes and the usual other stuff, this car is still like it came out of factory. Brilliant video as usual, and you are making a great job of this E46. One piece of advice, when changing wiper blades, always put a soft blanket or large piece of foam on the windscreen, I have seen a good few people take off the wiper blade, turn round to pick up the new one, only for the wiper arm to spring back onto the windscreen and break it, and you don't want to take that risk!!

Great videos, I just moved from New Zealand to Czech. I use to have a lot of cars that I refurbished similar to what you are doing. These were all Australian built Ford Falcon's and Fairmont's. But now I am in Czech Republic I cannot buy these cars as they were only built in right hand drive and not sold in Europe. So I have started from scratch (25 years of tools and equipment left behind on the other side of the planet) and have bought myself an E46 330D touring. It was the closest thing I could get to a Falcon wagon, being RWD and inline six. (I did look at a few V8 Mercedes as well but they were all buckets of rust). Your videos are a great inspiration for me and my project. Although I'm finding it hard to get parts here in Czech, mainly because I don't speak the language. I've spent most of my time replacing to steering and suspension parts to get it riding nice and now I'm starting with a few minor cosmetic repairs and upgrades. Once it's finished I'll probably sell it for lass than it owes me then start again on another. Because once a car is finished it becomes a bit boring :D
