Very rarely do you come across actual tested & proven advice for turbo m5x motors IN E39 ESPECIALLY, love you for this brotha! I plan to do an engine out 5 speed swap & turbo build on my 530i sedan & will be using your videos as a bible !

Never had issues with my bmw 4 cylinder manifold coming loose at the head flange, but always used new bmw hardware and oe manifold gaskets.

I run a Precision 6466 on my M54. I just use copper RTV instead of a turbo gasket... 😅

That might work for some time if the flanges are pretty damn flat

What bottom mount manifold is that? Looks awesome

Hey, do you run a compression reducing head spacer or anything?
@spankranchgarage4 ай бұрын
Nope just a stock elring headgasket

@@spankranchgarage amazing they hold up so well, those engines are more than 10 to 1 compression. Must be a fairly conservative timing curve.

You make this manifold? Looks sort of but not really like the old tubular bottom mount PPF manifold for E36. I have one of those. Turbo sits way lower tho. Also notice your drain on the pan is way lower than oil level. Have you had problems with that? I tried getting as high on the pan as possible, that has resulted in a 10-12 degree an10 hose. Not ideal Edit: I didn't watch far enough to see you actually went over the drain lol, my bad. By the way, about the oil level, i did that thing with the water in the sump also. Oil level sat higher than the gasket seal which i guess is why those always leak. Anyway, i then was trying to figure out how much oil was actually in the pan when the engine is running and no one had a clear answer until i found some Russian automotive channel (Garage 54) where they test all sorts of wacky shit. They had an old 4 cylinder Lada with an oil pan and valve conver made of see through plastic and to my suprise the oil level in the pan dropped a few cm when the engine was running. I would say 2 cm. I know its a completely different motor, but oil level should drop a fair bit in the BMW motor also. More than you think definetly!

what size turbos do you usually recommend for bottom mount setups?
@spankranchgarage Жыл бұрын
That totally depends on the type of power and response you want plus what chassis you are installing the engine in.
