M56 Smartgun from the movie "Aliens" - (SEMI-AUTO) Live Fire Test and Camera Zeroing

This is a video of my live firing M56 Smartgun (chambered in 8mm Mauser), Head Mounted Sight and Harness from “Aliens”. This is just a brief overview of my rig and a function test as I am still fine tuning the aiming camera. This is still a work in progress but I will have a full in-depth range video with all my gear equipped, in the near future.
The chest armor plate in front of the Steadicam vest and the functioning shoulder lamp are kits from Chefs Creations over at chefscreations.... I also have his screen accurate USCM BDU's that I will wear in a future video when I have the entire rig on at the range.

That is freaking cool well done. I always thought the targeting system seeing what your eye was seeing and the barrel would compensate and fire in the direction of the enemy or xenomorph of course.

You would be correct. In the movie and in the Aliens lore, the Smartgun would track targets using a thermal sensor and automatically aim the gun at the target using servo motors inside the arm that connects the gun to the vest. I just made this one exactly how they made the prop for the movie using a Steadicam IIIA arm and vest that’s used for filmography. I just added a camera and micro display so I can actually aim this when I take it to the shooting range.

I thought about it but it wouldn’t be wise nor cost effective to get and maintain an SOT when I’m just building this stuff as a hobby. Im not going into business or anything and I’m just making these projects for my own gratification.

I was zeroing the camera so it needed to be in a fixed position for this. It will be mounted to the Steadicam IIIA arm in the next video.

Just an idea but look into digital rifle scopes.. you could hack an ATN or sightmark digital scope and REALLY get this thing sighted in. Most come 2 or 3x optical zoom as the lowest setting which would be perfect.
