Warning: there is some swearing in a couple of the performances, if you would rather listen to a non-sweary version, the podcast edit on Scottish Independence Podcasts will be available from Friday wherever you get your podcasts.
An afternoon of live performances took place at the Roxbury Central Festival Fringe venue in Edinburgh this June. The event was created by Australian New Scot Jasmine Lindemann and was inspired by the contribution that the National Collective made to the 2014 independence campaign.
The Indypodcast team were invited along to record the event and we had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.
This month's episode of the Mibbes Aye Show starts with an interview with Jasmine, who shares her refreshing and positive perspective on Scotland with the eyes of a newcomer.
We then showcase the performances from the event. Performers were:
Poet Myra Ross reads some of her poems on the theme of social justice and independence.
Author Cathy McSporran reads an excerpt from her novel Cold City in which she imagines two parallel but very different fates for Scotland
Glasgow based theatre group Action Theatre Scotland perform a scene from their play Alba, which has just finished a run at the Gilded Balloon as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Glasgow Comedy Festival hit The Sad Girls Club give us a hilarious glimpse into one of their club meetings
Photographer Richard Prow discusses his distinctive photographs from marches and events from his FB page Photies by Rick
Yes Stones and Yes Slates activists - and occasional podcast guests- Lynne Dougan and Neil Haston discuss the value of art as a non confrontational way to start independence conversations.
We are grateful to Jasmine and all the performers for sharing their work with us.
Music: Inspired by Kevin MacLeod

Sorry I missed you ladies. I also believe the arts have an important part to play in the independence movement & the message we need to take to the wider public. Literature, film, music, poetry, painting & comedy & their creators can all play their part. A big hand for the Sad Girls Club. They were hilarious.👋👋👋& thanks for mentioning "The Cheviot, The Stag & the Black Black Oil"

YES - indeed - "the arts have a VERY important part to play in the independence movement" it is a very important factor indeed, we cannot leave it all merely to the politicians... if we want Unity - we have to communicate X integrate on a soul level through goodness, truth and beauty. So, well said ladies - appreciate your intelligent conversation - thank you, keep up the good work X Ps. Please come and see my contribution - a fourty minute show at Halloween for the Edinburgh Horror Show entitled 'To Eat, or be Eton' ? !!! a programme of Classic Comic poetry and prose about Clannibalism.... with something to suit everybody's taste..............
