Unbelievable shot making by Lin in this tournament. Lin has really improved in the recent months and added arsenals to his game, especially attack away from the table, turning defense to offense (which is new because previously he tended to stand very close to the table all the time). He was clearly in the zone for the entire tournament. The silent assassin just got stronger!! And just as you said, he is killing it far from the table, it reminded me of the amazing rallies of ma long vs xuxin with the celluloid ball, and after the plastic ball was implemented, everyone was just keeping their game closer to the table and banana flicking every freakin ball, so I think that is the main reason he got stronger now that he is able to go back and attack from there and also I think he has the most dangerous flick in the game, the second one would be harimoto, but he is not that strong doing shots far from the table.

Has been my favorite player for a long time. Silky, effortless technique and calm demeanor. This is his best performance and has improved a lot. Now reaching potential to go toe-to-toe with top chinese players. Looks stronger and now attacks mid- distance and even away from both wings . Great to see him lift this trophy. Gotta love the Silent Assassin! A commanding performance against one of the all time greats, having just beaten the world n°2. Amazing. I laughed on the point at 3:54, Lin could have just calmly placed the ball on the table as Ma Long was lying of the floor but it's as if he thought "I don't care if he's on the floor, he's still Ma Long and I can't take any chances!" .The Dragon has such a reputation that it's as if Lin would almost have expected him to get to the ball if he hadn't smashed it 🙂

honestly with lin yun ju's aggressive playstyle and the way he trains, smashing the ball is safer than tapping the ball. He habitually attacks such opportunity balls and he never built a habit of tap ins, amateurs do that too be safe but a coach once told me top player's safest shots are their strong shots they do all the time, particularly ones with heavy top spin though
