Let's not forget that she did this song to honor Tanja Kross, the professional opera singer and therefore very couragiously went totally out of her comfort zone because she had no classical training whatsoever. At the time this show was broadcast she was only 21. She had her breakthrough 2 years earlier in The Voice of Holland and she can be categorized as a pop/hiphop singer. Singing this gigantic classical aria, which normally is performed by a tenor, in her own non operatic style of course sounds strange to the ear, but what was important to me is that she put every bit of emotion into it just to honor Tanja. And for me that's all that counts.

Maan is a hero for even doing this as a pop/hiphop singer without any classical/opera training. She teared me up.

Maan is a very good singer, and 2 weeks ago i met her, she made a selfie with me, but with my phone😉 She is in a group called The Streamers, and they were at a pop up store that was only open 2 days, because 1 week ago they did 3 concerts at the Olympic Stadium here in Amsterdam

As a pop artist Maan stepped way out of here comfort zone. She sang this for Tania Kross who was moved by Maan's performance.........

I adore Maan (Moon), she's not only cute as can be, but she's also a really nice person (by now, i guess you've noticed that being nice, is something i value a great deal in singers hehehe) She stepped waaaaay out of her comfort zone for this, kinda like Maria Fiselier did with Eminem's "Loose yourself", very far removed from what she usually does. (Dutch pop music) She sang this for Tania Kross, the lovely lady who was in tears, a vocal powerhouse for sure (has to be, she is an Opera singer). I have mad respect for Maan taking on this behemoth of a song, she is a great singer, but this song is... way up there on the difficulty scale, and with her background, i'd say she pulled it off in grand fashion. (for a non-opera singer) The season this is from, was also a really good season, i'd say it comes very close in quality, to the last season we had with Floor and Henk. Maan is one of those singers that was really popular right from the beginning when she won the Voice Of Holland. I don't quite get what people like so much about her voice. She's a good singer, don't get me wrong, but I like a bit more character in a voice. I do like her soft singing quite a lot tho, she doesn't do that much I think so it would be great to hear her doing that more!

You have to think about that she is pop singer and that she did a song that's really for a opera singer. From that same episode when Tania Kross was sitting on the couch did Tommy Christians the song Caruso. Tommy is a musical singer, he did a great job on that song.

Maan knows her limitations and - inside and outside the show - never pretended to sing this as a true opera aria. She sang it in het own style in honour of Tanja Kross to whom this aria means something special. My personal favorite of the 2017 season is: "Maan - I won't give up | Beste Zangers" Her singing: "Maan - Jij bent de liefde | Beste Zangers" (You are the love, Dutch lyrics) was elected "music moment of the year" by the Dutch audiance Maan was 20 when this show aired, not 21. She had won "The Voice of Holland" the year before when she was a 19 year old student; singing "Maan - Halo (The voice of Holland 2015 | Liveshow 2)" amongst other things.

Yeah, she also is very good in very "small" and emotional songs.. I was amazed that she had the guts to do this for Tanja, but that is what this show is about.

Maan is a good singer. But listen to the 13 year old Dutch super soprano Amira Willighagen singing Nessun Dorma at the Classics is Groot concerts in South Africa. She will blow your socks off,and blow your mind at the same time. Amira is STUNNING. Her Nessun Dorma is one of the best versions, and her voice is unbelievable unique. Give yourself a present, and listen to her.

she is not a opera singer but a pop singer she just started to sing, she won the voice of holland that year before that we never heared of here in the Netherlands so she is that kind of young singer she is 20 something years young so she can still learn a lot but so far for a starter she dit a pretty good job i think, but you are right that this has been performed beter by others but she had the guts to try for tania

Hi Ann, just saw your comment on the Marillion - Gaza review. Fabulous song - you have to encourage Olly to react to some :) Gaza would be a great choice for him - although maybe to political - I would hope not, but you never know. I think it is the first song on their setlist at the RAH when I go to see them in two weeks time. Sublime.

I think Maan is a very average singer and lacks personality, but that’s my personal opinion. Her father is a tv-producer which gave her extra chances with tv-performances in Dutch national broadcasting (NPO). She has a following as a pop singer, where her voice is more obscured by heavy beats, i guess they like the way she looks.
