The brands that she uses should send free product for her to use as she's always plugging them. It goes to show she is not driven by money/profit but she has genuine love for Korean food and she wants everyone/anyone to know. She is like a Korean Julia Childs. Those ppl are so lucky to get the Maangchi shopping experience. Love your work Maangchi ❤❤❤❤

This is so helpful. I can read hangul better now, but the reason this is really helpful is because culturally I don’t know the variety of reasons korean ingredients are sold for, like cutting down time versus improving flavor or lowering cost. So i can much better understand what I’m looking at now. Thank you Maangchi!!

I live in the USA and I was impressed by how huge the store is. Most like;y it's in a very big city like LA, Chicago, or NYC. Most Asian grocery stores in the USA just has a Korean section. And the aisles are rarely that wide. It's usually in larger cities (Over 100,000 people.) that you see specific Korean (Or any other country.) grocery stores. Although you will see Vietnamese groceries is a lot of small towns since so many Vietnamese refugees were settled in small towns throughout the USA.

Maangchi sometimes I see that you use different containers to store items like soy sauce, hot pepper flakes, sesame oil, sesame seeds, kimchi, and all that stuff, so I know there are a lot of items and spices but I would like to know if you can make a video to show us what type of containers we can use for some of this items, how and where to store them and for how long? This videos are so helpful, thanks!

Jorge Perales I think you might find more info on her blog. Also most of the time she usually mentions where she stores it when she makes certain things. For dry spices, like pepper flakes and roasted seaweed, she usually puts it in the freezer in a sealed or knotted bag to keep it fresh, and I think for fermented sauces like doenjang and the like she just keeps it in a container with a plastic film touching the surface and store it in a fridge. But that's what I kind of gleaned from all the videos I watched.

Rice syrup can be used for any recipe that needs corn syrup. I use it for pecan pie. I find that Red Boat makes the best anchovy-based fish sauce. Kadoya is a superior sesame oil. I buy that one all the time. Thanks for the tip about yuja. I will seek that out next time.

Very informative video, thanks for taking the time to shop with us! Even though I've taught myself how to read the Korean Hangul (which REALLY helps when you're shopping) I wasn't always sure what the differences were between the varieties of soy sauces, pastes and spices. Google Translate partially did the job but going through the specifics with you in this video is way better and it has clarified a lot of the questions that I had in mind. This is now my go-to video the next time I need to remind myself of what to get. There are several Korean grocery stores fortunately dotted around my city, but not as MASSIVE as the ones you have in the States! If we have a serious store like that here I probably won't be getting out anytime soon. :)

Last time, before Korea was known, we can barely find any Korean products in Malaysia. But after the booming of Kpop and Kdrama, finally there were demands for Korean products so now the Japanese retailers including retailers importing foreign products add the Korean aisle/section so now it's easier to find something from Korea.
