My 21 year old son sent this song to me from sober living in March. It scared the hell out of me. I knew nothing about Mac Miller. When I learned more about his passing I was more scared. Immediately asked him if he was ok. He said he was and just wanted to share. We called the staff at the facility to keep an eye on him. Five weeks later we got the call he died from Xanax laced with fentanyl. I listen to this song a lot. A beautiful sound with words that tell me how Mac and my son were tortured.

My brother and I always bonded with music. He knew I loved Mac, but I refused to listen to Swimming or Circles after Mac died. But he was so adamant about me listening to this song so I finally did. I listened to it again when I was trying to make a Spotify playlist and texted him to ask him what else I should add; he had died when I was texting him, listening to this song that he loved. I found out a few hours later and they let me play this at his funeral. I miss him more than anything else in this world. I feel so lonely without him and this song will probably always make me sob now… hopefully one day it will be “in a good way”. RIP Cody. I miss you more than you will ever know.

Swimming's 3 year anniversary was a couple days ago, and I saw a comment on an Instagram post that I think perfectly describes this amazing project. It was something along the lines of "Swimming taught me that life is a constant, non-linear journey of finding, accepting, and loving yourself." I feel like that's so accurate and beautiful and I think Circles adds to that to say that it is a struggle that you'll constantly face, and within that struggle of finding, accepting, and loving yourself you will come across many beautiful and challenging things, but in the end, it's all a cycle where you can't give up or you'll drown, the only way to go is back to where you started. And I think that perfectly describes what every conscious and self-aware person's life is like. We all have our struggles, and it is up to us to use our self-awareness, imagination, independent will, and conscience to change. We have the power to make the world a better place like Mac did for so many of us. Anyways I hope whoever is reading can take something good away from this comment. I was thinking about this for a couple days and thought it could help somebody in this comment section. Thank you so much for reading, and remember you can always change. You have power.

Wtfplsstfu He was just a truly genuine and kind human being and there aren’t a great many of those people in a lot of our lives. He had no ego or arrogance, he didn’t think he was better than anyone, he just wanted to see the sun rise tomorrow and smile. A serene human being who made the world a better place by being here, that can’t be said for most people. The devil works in the business of addiction and Mac didn’t have what he needed to win the fight, that’s really what this album is about. When you get tired of “swimming” you drown. Mac was tired of what he was going through and couldn’t keep swimming through it, so he drowned. He was looking for a way out of the water to “get back to earth” and just couldn’t do it. If you look at some of his interviews and read into what his life has been like for the better part of the time he’s been famous it’s clear he had been in trouble for awhile and this was almost inevitable. What Kendrick said was interesting, Mac never wanted the world to feel the way he did with him so he put a smile on his face and did the best he could everyday. He needed someone, he needed many people to help him get out of the water and back to Earth but it never came. This affected me a great deal as well, I shed tears listening to this album after he died and it genuinely hurt me like it was someone I knew. When X died it was shocking, but the there was no middle ground with him and he was either gonna end up in the grave or behind bars with how cowboy his mind was. Mac’s soul was pure and simple, I can’t think of how this feels for people who actually knew him. It’s just... it’s tough.

I was listening to this song when I learned Mac had died. It was a punch to the gut making me go numb. He was a truly talented artist who carved his path in a genre oversaturated with pretenders.
