This is the most interesting video of yours I’ve seen. First, black looks fantastic on you! Then, the way you did your eyes - it’s fantastic with the black. I like that the blush is light. I have a similar suggestion for Nyx Taupe. I got the newer “So Taupe” and didn’t like it. I found the LA Girl Just Blushing in “Just Because,” and I like it even better. It has a very slight mauve undertone. I got mine from Amazon. 👍🏻

I have super fair cool toned skin, and the Sephora Collection Colorful Blush in the shade Second Chance works pretty well for me as contour. For a liquid option, I really love the e.l.f. I went to Ulta the other day and finally grabbed this foundation in a lighter shade. I think NW13 will work for me in this one. I need to swatch them side by side and get it up on Instagram. I kept the darker NW15 - I'm sure I'll self tan for a week someday and be able to use it! lol

Yay! I was so excited to see this review tonight! You’re right, the shade is too dark for you. What a bummer! But it does look nice. I think I may give it a try if I can find the right shade. Loved seeing more of Ziva at the end. Love her so much! Question. Have you tried Julep eyeshadows? I love them, especially the shimmers. The Smokey Gray shimmer brightens these tired eyes in a flash. Primer is a must when using their eyeshadows though. MAC painterly or Milani! Take care!

This is now my favourite foundation -even with the testing on animals issue. I’ve been interested to see your thoughts. You and I share the same skin tone and normally the same match in colour for all foundations. I had heard that the shades were darker. The MAC website in Australia matched me at NW5 😮. I’m normally an NW15 girl too. Bought it, way too dark as expected. Took it back and swapped it for NW11 which is perfect for me but I don’t tan. Wasn’t able to test NW13, so can’t report on the colour. But I’m very, very happy with NW11 and now have my holy grail. I have the Nars Light Reflecting-I’m meh on it. Love your vids. Love Ziva.

Hi Shelley I love the face and body and as I am ghostly pale wear it in shade C1. The shades of this one worry me being so dark and multiple reviews have complained about the shade’s being totally off. I will go to the counter and try to get colour matched on this one, plus a sample to make sure it doesn’t oxidise further. I’m hoping it is a slightly higher coverage version of the F&B tbh. My bottle of F&B is almost finished (around five sixths done) and it’s a Winter favourite which isn’t far off here in Scotland. We’re having 12 inches of snow right now in the mountains fell yesterday so the skiers are happy. Best wishes x

I was just looking at this online and thought the shades looked way dark. I'm usually NW25, but the model online looked about 2-3 shades darker than me.... The NW20 and NW22 looked like they might be too dark (they even looked dark on the models they chose). I thought I might be going crazy or something, but remembered you had just put out this video, and it definitely confirms that the shades are off. The shade comparison chart also said I'd be the same as always, and what's the point of even having it if it's not accurate?

I usually use NW20 and with this foundation I had to go to NW10 and it’s maybe a tad too light but the next up I still felt was too dark but the foundation is beautiful.

Hi Shelley, I really like those colors on your eyes, also the blush and highlighter is really pretty on you but I will have to be honest that shade of Mac is too dark I would definitely wear that as you summer shade but for now thru Winter you need a lighter shade unless you wear the makeup all the way down your neck front and back but other than that it is a beautiful foundation on you (just get a different shade). I am light skinned but I am neutral in shades, but that shade would be dark on me too. I think your makeup look today is just Beautiful and I really like how your hair is today it really makes you look good and black is also beautiful on you too. Great Video! I'm the same skin tone as you. I got a sample of this in NW13 and it's also quite dark compared to other MAC foundations in the same colour. If I was purchasing the full size, I would have to go even lighter than NW13.

I would go and see the foundation in person before you try to get another shade- could very well be that this bottle was the last one of the prior shade being bottled, or the first one of the next shade being bottled and so the label does not match properly... in spite of the shade being off, it truly does look beautiful on you... smooches to MissZiva!

I finally figured out what I wanted to say about the sophisticated look. With that look it’s as if a whole new, very different person emerges - I’d say leaning more to the Scorpio power. You said you’re generally soft and wanted to look a little tougher - well, this is the way to do it. Just wear black. And do that makeup look. That will do it!

Thanks Shelly for the review of this foundation, I was waiting for your review. This particular foundation tends to be way more dark from your normal shades. I had taken a sample from the store before committing to the full size and it was way too dark from my normal (NC30) and took a sample of (NC25) which is also a sort of orange-ish and now I don’t know which one to buy. Omg on the Mac website I used the shade finder and it matched me with shade NW 15 for the radiance foundation and foundation I used was the Glossier #2 which is a much lighter shade. Needless to say I went into Ulta and I liked the NW 10 best. It’s a gorgeous foundation though. I thought the NW 10 would be slightly too dark but because it’s so thin it’s a perfect match. The other 10’s looked too pasty. But yeah Mac needs to fix their shade finder too 😂 because NW 15 would’ve scared the heck out me on my skin tone 🤣!!!

The NARS is one of my all time favorites :) I'd say the quality is equal - NARS is maybe a smidge more coverage and a smidge more toward a dewy finish.

I would say all 3 are similar enough that if you have one you don't need the others! I wear all 3 regularly (the NARS most often last summer and the Haus most often this summer) but they're really all 3 quite similar and quite good!

I was color matched for this at a MAC counter. The rep used a lighter shade than I would have had previously, and told me not to get scared. She said this product darkens unlike most of their other foundations. I asked if she meant it oxidizes and she laughed and said they don't like to say "oxidize".

Wow I wonder why they don't say that (the response makes me think indeed that's what it's doing but they don't want to say that). Seems like it could make a good teachable moment where oxidation is just a function of chemical reactions and not necessarily a bad thing. But I still wonder why if they know it darkens they didn't name the shades based on the final color on the skin.

So it actually already comes out darker and doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with oxidizing. I wish they would have just taken this into consideration when they gave the shade numbers, not like everyone knows to go down two shades unless they ask prior

I've heard so many explanations over the years. I don't know if any are really correct, but I do know that the overall concept of naming colors to balance a complexion rather than match it is more common in the professional artistry world than the consumer world, which may be part of where this all came from if MAC was targeting makeup artists as its original primary audience. (Haus Labs uses this "opposite" color naming too - but it's only opposite to consumer color naming; it's not that it's not "correct"). Basically if you have pink in your skin undertone, you have a cool undertone, and more yellow is warm. So the shade selection in MAC (or any other brand that follows this approach) would be to balance your undertone - so a cool would choose an NW shade and a warm would choose an NC shade. I've also heard people use these tricks to remember it - NW = "not warm" and NC = "not cool," or that NW = "needs warm" and NC = "needs cool." Consumer-targeted brands tend to make their shades as matching the skin's undertone rather than balancing it. This is really just a function of the name, because an NW shade in MAC will look the same as a "cool" shade in a consumer-targeted brand in most cases. Far more brands seem to use the matching names rather than the balancing names.

Don’t stress too much about the foundation being darker. They said this particular formula tends to run dark and everyone needs to go get color matched when they get it. I think Mac is still pretty reliable as far as NW15 goes.

Happened to me too. I'm normally Nc10. When I bought it, it was way too dark. I looked and noticed they had a new shade that was lighter. It was nc5. When I tried it, it was far too light. Question for you. Do you think you will be trying Polite Society More Than a Pretty Face Skin-Caring Foundation? From reviews I’ve watched and comments I’ve read on Ulta, it sounds pretty good. Sounds like they run a bit warm so I think you and I might need to consider a cool shade. The mascara is also popular, and on their site they have a holiday eye palette with a hilarious name! The colors look beautiful!

Holy NW15, Batman! What the heck?! We've all run around for years describing our skin in MAC shades even if we don't regularly wear MAC because their shades are so consistent! 😢 I guess yay that it seems to be a good product but boo on the inconsistent shade!

I am your exact shade in every foundation. However, this foundation would only work in NC 14! I have never been a NC ever!
