MAC tools RBRT bits go head to head with wera hex plus. This is a long, nerdy review. Well, perhaps a journey of tool discovery rather than a review.

I got that set on sale in November for $250. I love it, used it last weekend to put my sons bed together. Also, one day at the shop, the guys were trying to tighten a set screw. He thought it might be a 3.5 mm because a 3 was small and a 4 was big. He was using a 1/8 cause it fit best, but still loose. I got my 1/8, stuck it in there, and it had NO play at all. These are some bad little bits.

Tex you came thru saved me a few dollars I was going to order some rbrt bit sockets mainly the 1/4 sizes because those smaller hex and torx sizes always gives me problems. Seen this and ordered me all the sae and metric size bits in wera plus @ about $2 each. Still had to order the torx from Mac for almost triple the price. Still want to get that $300 set from Mac that’s the complete package but I’ll make do for now.

Thanks Eric! I did everything I could to disadvantage the RBRT and it still came out on top. That said, the hex plus is hard to beat.

So funny.. as soon as I saw Clays RBRT video, I went right to my Mac guy and ordered the metric hex and torx sets.. My snap on guy got a tool box sale because of him too, amongst other things.. They should pay him a commission fee

Use a Mig welder, and weld a nut on (the heat helps too), and move on to your next project. If you do not have one, pick up a 120V model on sale (under $200)...and you have something really useful for so many other projects. Those hex and torx nuts are above the surface, so super easy to weld a nut on. If the bolt breaks below the surface, you can still weld a nut on (check out the videos on removing bolts with a welder).

I was missing my 3/16 hex rbrt and Mac can't get me one until they are available for individual sale. They tried to put a t27 in the slot for it. Guess its a common problem.

I'm assuming that if you had the RBRT socket set you could smack it on the head of the bolt and take it off..

Thanks Steve. Most don’t know that. I should have at least mentioned that. I actually took German for 4 years in high school. Won superior at state rally 4 years in a row. I can still recite Der Erlkonig from memory (now that’s nerdy). But...since 99.6% of the viewers are American...I figured I’d go along with what most do and Americanize the name. In case you were curious, the only reason a guy from South LA took German is cause his favorite teacher taught it.
