I was born and raised in macao. My whole family immigrated to the US in the late 60s. Since my first return 37 years later, I have been back to macao a half dozen times . It was transformed from a sleepy quiet town to a bustling city in the original site to the expansive development across the water to kotai. I just found out that there’s a panda pavilion at kotai since 2011, free admission. I would love to spend a day there in my next visit.

9:54 I'm Portuguese and we sure have those pork buns (I wouldn't know that's how you'd call that in English haha). That's the kind of thing you'd usually see here at big gatherings being sold, like on the entrance of football games and such. I just don't think we bread the slice at all. Or we wouldn't call it a bifana if it's breaded. We do usually put the bun in bread, but not bread them.
@carlylive97144 жыл бұрын
If it's breaded it would be panado instead of bifana

If you are Hilton Gold/Diamond, highly recommend staying at Macao Conrad. They will often upgrade you to a huge suite. 1) Macau is like HK. 2 parts (Macau and Taipa/Cotai/Coloane) 2) Take the free casino buses. 3) Macau is safe.

5:17 Actually there is an exchange difference of about 3% between the HK dollar and the MOP (in favor of the HKD). If you spend your money in HKD in the tourist areas, (casinos, restaurants, massage parlors, Koi Kei bakery, etc), they will take the HKD at par (which is a rip off). If you go to any of the inner city stores and buy stuff and pay with Hong Kong dollars, the merchants would likely accept the money at a premium and give you back the difference. If you go to Macau and have Hong Kong dollars with you, it may be advisable to check out the currency exchange shops and find out how much of a premium would they offer for Hong Kong dollars in exchange for Macau Patacas. For any big ticket items or larger expenditures, that 3% can amount to quite a bit.

Here's a tip, old doesn't mean bad, some really old hotels that are cheap are actually nearly as good as new ones. Just make sure to NEVER go to a shady hotel, I would recommend 3-4 star+ hotels. There is a bunch of hotels clustered together in a HUGE plot called the "Galaxy" there are a few cheap 5 star hotels there. Also remember, Macau still has a mafia, although they aren't as prominent, going into shady areas would probably get you locked up and sold for money.

I am Portuguese and I do know people who have been to Macau. A aunt of mine worked there as a teacher, even after the handover. And Macau is fairly decently mentioned on our history classes, so I guess that would only happen if you didn't pay attention in history class. It was the last colonial region to get independent from us (to China but still). Well, excluding Madeira and Azores but they're really part of the country and not seen as colonies whatsoever. It saddens me more how Portuguese is really (or basically) not spoken in Macau.
