Hey chaps - hope you like the video! Reckon you'd buy a new MBA?? 🤔 1) MBA does have fans (only the MacBook was passively cooled) - but was silent throughout my testing. 2) Technically it uses custom 'NG' processors, a higher clocked version of Intels Ice-Lake Y Series of chips. It's still not as powerful as a 10th Gen U Series CPU though. 👍

Yeah, same question about XPS13 vs MBP. I have (and still in my return period) the new XPS 13 (9300) with the 4k screen. Battery life is pretty short - I get about 5-6 hours. But I love the keyboard and the no-bezel screen looks incredible. Kinda wishing I'd gone 1080p, but at the time I ordered it, they weren't allowing you to select a 1080p screen with 16GB RAM. I had to get 4k to get 16GB RAM. They're supposed to add new configs soon, though. But I'm also considering returning it for the MBA, just to have at least one Mac in my house. I really wish they'd released the MBP 13, though. I absolutely love the XPS - I love the keyboard, the screen. The only thing I don't love is Windows. :)

Hey, I think you made a slight mistake about the CPU on the latest MBA, it's not running 10th Gen Y-Series Processor.. At the 4:45 mark, it's written as i3-100NG4 and on Intel's website, there's a mobile CPU called the i3-1000G4 with the same spec.

Mine will be here tomorrow. I ordered the i3 because after much research, it would accomplish all my college tasks perfectly well. If I ever did need more power I have a gaming PC. I’m pretty confident this MBA will do just fine, but it’s good to hear from a student it is great.

It's true that 720p is not really the issue, in fact the lower res is good for streaming / video calls as it's a smaller file size. But the sensor / aperture of the lens is the issue and needs to be improved.

Honestly, this is the best laptop for students. First of all, the webcam. The webcam isn't really important and it honestly looks good to me. Second, the audio. The audio seemed like an okay microphone that you can get for like 40 dollars. Third, the specs. The specs really are great for casual internet browsing and occasional light gaming. This laptop is perfect for someone like me who sometimes edit videos and does schoolwork.

I just got mine a week and I am really starting to regret my purchase. The fans are so incredibly loud for no reason. I'll just be running google chrome with max 4 tabs open and spotify for instance, with the macbook on a hard surface, and it just regularly starts making a loud noise.

If you’re looking for something to edit movies or videos then you’ll need something with better processing so go with the MacBook Pro.

I bought MacBook Air 2020 two days before and was so excited . But I am kind of disappointed with it. Lemme say the pros I felt: 1. Its light(especially comparing it to my early 2015 MacBook Pro. PS: well its Air ,and it has to be light :P) 2. The speakers are pretty good. Gave a surround system effect. 3. Magic Keyboard is nice. Cons: 1. Overheating : With just 10 mins of normal usage, ie, turning on my laptop for the first time and opening a few apps, the laptop started heating up. I thought maybe it's a first time issue. But after keeping it idle for an hour, I started using it again by playing a youtube videos. I couldn't keep it on my lap because of the heat. 2. Camera quality : it's worse than my present 2015 MacBook Pro. It's so disappointing that after 5 years when you want to have a new laptop from the same company, you end up getting something worse. With the present scenario, where people are heavily using video calls and conferences, Apple has forgot to upgrade their camera. Come on Apple, how much does it cost to improve camera?? I am not sure whether anyone has felt this heating issue. Did find a few articles on net commenting on the same problem though. Anyways I am going to return this. I am so used to MacOS, I don't feel like changing back to Windows. I will wait for the next Air hoping to see a better performance.

Mine is 18months now and legit still working. Good thing the pricey tag pays off. I always have laptop keyboard issues with my previous laptops. I’m using this right now as work laptop. Only downside is it sometimes hangs with heavy games like Sims4 lol. It really heats up fast so better use an external fan. Hope it last me 10yrs cause this is really expensive for me.😅

the i5 is really badly cooled as it does not have any fans directly cooling the cpu and is passively cooled because of that it thermal throttles.The graphics in the i5 is the g7 vs the g5 in the i3 which is one of the main reasons people upgrade them.

What about fan and heat...it's very silent without any problems, and heat wasn't felt on the keyboard on my fingers. Also I have made test by Geekbench 4 with result single core score 5321, multicore result score 15859. In my opinion very luxury result and all MBA. I'm personally very satisfied :-)

I have the same problem. I bought MBA 2019 in December 2019. I'm not a graphic designer, just standard Word/Netflix/Safari user but the tests say that by using MBA 2020 u may feel the difference. I hope, that in real it's one nano-second of loading a photo on Facebook (only). Don't forget about the keyboard but because of virus situation in next one or two months we can't try. Mine is fine, no problems and pretty comfortable.

If its under load it should be running.. how else will it be cooled. If it was running non stop it would be faulty as it should only kick in under load. Or Apple can turn down the rpms like they used to and burn out the cpu sooner then it should because macbook users don't like hearing fan noise.

Meanwhile my late 2015 mc pro doesnt do any of that. So i just wonderd if the fans kick in fast and how much noise its making because i dont want to hear heavy fan noise while iam watching a youtube video. @@notgerhardnotrichter4951 iPads run arm architecture which are designed to run cooler and they're much smaller then a laptop cpu. The phone chassis basically acts as one giant heatsink. CPU dies are much larger and require a lot more voltage to run, hence why they generate a lot more heat. Some laptops are passively cooled (dont have fans) but under load (getting hot) the cpu tend to throttle.

I sold my 2019 MacBook Air and wanted to try something new and cheaper (BestBuy deal Surface Laptop 3 $999)... Boy was that an awful purchase, the Surface Laptop 3 was returned the next day because it heated up like a furnace... I mean really really hot... long story short, I ended up exchanging for the MacBook Air 2020 i5... I am glad I did, new keyboard was awesome and the i5 processor is zippy... wish the webcam was updated but beggars can't be choosers right! I installed and used Adobe Photo Elements and Premier Elements at the same time... along with Outlook and Microsoft Excel... no hiccups what so ever!

I’m a JAMF admin and create the hardware standards for my employer. We are looking at the $999 and $1299 configurations. Unfortunately if you change any of the specs on the devices it becomes a custom SKU and Apple has to ship it which takes a few weeks. So unfortunately if you add the i5 to the $999 model you won’t have it for a few weeks, if you need one now you would have to pay $300 more and upgrade the CPU and SSD to get the next “standard” configuration. I really wish Apple would offer a standard configuration of the MBA and more appropriately the MBP13 with 16GB of ram so it would not have to be a custom SKU. We call can dream right? Honestly I think Apple made lighting strike twice (ad pun intended) repeating the good work on the MBP16 showing they are listening to customers on the hardware side of things.

@@jedwardoo I have not had my hands on either yet (due to working remote for the quarantine), but what I am seeing at this point is the i5 thermal throttles pretty badly due to Apple not upgrading the cooling solution in the MBA during constant work loads. The heat pipes dont actually come in contact with the CPU, the fan just moves air around the case. I would imagine the i5 in the MBA is going to be pretty close in best performance as the i5 in the MBP13 in burst performance but with the MBP13 having a much better cooling solution the MBP13 should out preform pretty well in compute in the long run (I bet the MBA is graphically better), though benchmarks will tell. Apple making the upgrade just $100 is probably them realizing they needed to make it a really good value for people to be interested in it. It is nearly a 50% performance boost for $100, if whatever you are doing does not require constant power where you would need to worry about thermal throttling I would say the i5 is worth it. If whatever you are doing keeps the CPU ramped up I would avoid the MBA all together and look at the MBP13 still, or wait until the MBP13 refreshes whenever that is.

Excellent review. Very happy we bought the MBA-2020 i5. Works great. Plenty of videoconferencing. Some video/photo editing. That camera could be better obviously. Great complement to iPad Pro, which we use 80+% of the time. Highly recommended - based on your NEEDS obviously.

Livi M I bought it and it isn’t noisy. I was using it for several hours today and stopped to listen but I didn’t hear anything and it hasn’t gotten hot either. The i5 is works well for my needs. I’m currently doing a lot of school assignments (videos, 3 to 6 windows open at a time). I’m very satisfied. It’s my first Mac so I’m still learning shortcuts. I haven’t had mine a full week yet.

@@MaxTechOfficial Assuming the i5-version has fans, please talk about fan noise at different loads. Apparently, last years MBA can get pretty noisy under load, as the fans do not cool the CPU directly. It would also be interesting to see performance results for popular games and whether thermal throttling is much of an issue there. I'm looking forward to your review including Geekbench results.
