Silver was a good choice, I heard the Silver you can’t see the scratches if you get them. Also it’s the original color.

Yes, definitely! Or perhaps I would say it might even be an overkill? For students who do normal video or photo editing for just a short period of time, MacBook Air M1 is enough. You only need the Pro version for the sustained performance if you edit for a couple of days continuously or perhaps even gaming.

Hi! If I may ask, why did you opt for 16 gb RAM? And do you feel a significant change (if you owned an 8 gb one before)? I'm planning to buy soon but I'm having a dilemma in choosing between 8 gb and 16 gb. As a grad student, I tend to open multiple tabs at one time (like 40 tabs which is a super bad habit I'm trying to change 😥). I usually use Stata but I plan on learning Python or R soon. 🙂

That's a very good question. To be honest, I opted for the 16 gb RAM because I game a little and I want to leave some room of usable RAM if I were to encounter such RAM intensive program in the future. After a few months using it on Big Sur, I found it to be pretty RAM intensive (13gb/16gb RAM used, 1gb swapped used) by just opening about 20 tabs in Safari and probably 6 apps running in the background. However, after I updated the software to macOS Monterey, the RAM management efficiency seems to be much better. As for programming, I am not too sure about Stata but I have used vscode and I can say it is pretty efficient on its RAM management. Therefore, I would say you should be fine with 8gb RAM if you plan to use mainly for programming and some web surfing. Otherwise, opt for the 16gb RAM. Do let me know if you would like a more comprehensive review from me! Hope that helps :)

Nice video! I'm having a dilemma between Silver and SG too - My heart says silver but it is a little too harsh on my eyes if using under bright lights such as in the Apple Store but SG will discolour over time. Help! Do you use skins to protect your mac against scratches though?

Thanks and sorry for the late response! I would say go for what your heart says haha. I assume for most of the times you will be using it indoors and it wouldn't be harsh on your eyes under those conditions. No I do not use skins as I think my Mac looks best the way it is. FYI, Mac is pretty resistant to light scratches so I wouldn't worry too much, though you might want to be careful handling it to protect it from possible heavy scratches :)

It really depends on your personal preference. I personally opted for silver because I feel it ages well overtime

The softwares are free! As for your second question, I don't think I could answer it well enough as I have the 16gb ram model. Generally, I think 8gb ram should be good enough for most tasks including deep learning as you can always do it virtually

The ones coming out in November are of the higher end models so they are much more expensive. If the redesign doesn't matter much to you, I would say get one now! This M1 MacBook handles most of the task pretty well except for gaming

I could relate to ur impatience as well! One of the main reason I did not wait for the MBA M2 is because of the rumoured redesign. I belong to the group who doesn't appreciate the white bezels and white keyboard, it feels cheap to me. If you don't mind the redesign, I would recommend waiting out for a few more months?😅

@@shaoherng in all honesty, I hate the white keyboard and how bad it looks with the new colors, too. It's cheap and tacky looking. I choose to believe that the renders are just that....renders based off rumors and that Apple won't go through with it. I'll wait it out regardless but if they DO end up making them like that, I'm gonna be so mad lol. Fingers crossed Apple doesn't ruin such a beautiful machine =)
