I think it could be possible but no one tested it yet. The i7-3612QE has the same TDP and BGA socket as the i5 3210m/i7 3520m from the 2012 13" MBP. Maybe it would also need microcode change on the firmware to accept the new CPU.

@@stevenp3176 I disagree with you because the processor's TDP may depend on the pch supporting it and in this case, the cpu is embedded with the pch so it will work 100%

you could take it off from boards with dead charging circuit, or dead SSDs, as long as you know the CPU has high chance of working rate.

@@iBoffRCC makes sense !! May is ask what is the percentage of successful cpu replacements, which the cpu has to endure two heating cycles? Meaning to remove and re solder? If you had to remove from a Donor, I get why you re ball the board if they are bought. Thanks 🙏

technically yes. leaded solder balls have better structure and lower liquidus temperature.

They’re all soldered down. If you want to upgrade all three, buy a new one.

ON the 2017 MacBook pro, SSD is soldered only ON the model with touchbar, the NON-touchbar model have a dedicated SSD (removable)
