Ya'll should blast your boards with compressed air before checking them, makes it way easier to see the connections and way faster to find the bad ones
@cacevers3 жыл бұрын
I think he said a long while ago that they dont do that as it gives clues where trouble could be, cleaning the board before would remove some indicators.
@TheAquadian3 жыл бұрын
@@cacevers I could see how wiping the board down with alcohol would make it harder to look for clues, but I don't see how blowing away dust and hair with compressed air could remove anything meaningful. Anything caked on enough to be a problem would not get blown away, nor would it remove signs of water damage. But I know the shop knows what they're doing better than me, so I can't claim to know something they don't.

@@TheAquadian I think that capacitor would have flown away :D, But besides that they clean them afterwards anyway. No need to do extra work if you dont have to.

Are there any chemists in the house that can run lab tests on the black mask material that apple uses. My guess is its hygroscopic and attracts moisture from the air to surrounding components ever so slowly so over time it's a good chance corrosion will start just after warranty period. Brilliant design if so. What a pleasantly spoke technician. Keep it up champ.

@Louis Rossmann What can you can about this repair and ripping one of the resistors and leaving it like that in particular (I believe it is at 5:00)? If, say, the laptop breaks down again - is Apple or some other repair center responsible for proving that you screwed up? Not trolling, just noticed that as an engineer. Shouldn't you return the repaired laptop to the customer with no "odd" parts?

I’m curious why they can’t clean the board before trying to diagnose so it’s not all dusty and full of hair. Would make it a lot easier imo. Edit: By cleaning I mean using maybe just high pressure air to clean most of the dust/hairs off the board
@rossmanngroup3 жыл бұрын
Nope. It makes it harder
@nathanielspeed86863 жыл бұрын
Makes it harder because you remove any evidence of corrosion whether you use ultrasonic or alcohol. Diagnosis becomes that much more difficult without it
@NavidIsANoob3 жыл бұрын
@@rossmanngroup Why is that? Genuinely curious.
@hentichan3 жыл бұрын
@@NavidIsANoob you do not see evidence of corrosion or bug piss on the board after ultra sonic cleaning, so it will be almost imposible to find if a BGA Chip has corrosion underneath and has no connection to the board. Also you not see, if corrosion has reached other components if they just barly working now. If they than fail afterwards, you have a not very happy costumer. And i believe Louis has one policy: if the machine not working again in a specific timeframe, its likely they fix it again for free if they not find evidence that the costumer is at fault.
@tiavor3 жыл бұрын
@@NavidIsANoob the first step of the diagnosis is purely visual, you can see where corrosion is and already know that there was a problem with those parts. if they are clean, you have to measure through everything which will take a lot longer
