One idea for the future: in this video you concentrated on the creative workflows, which makes sense, as it is what you are doing the most. But I think it would add a lot to have developer perspective as well, and LMG has a unique opportunity as it has almost-in-house development team working on Floatplane. Maybe do some tests building Floatplane app, running it in emulator etc. This could also promote Floatplane at the same time. Good video nevertheless!

I got the 14" 10-16-16-Core M1 Pro with 512 GB. I saved on storage because a 2 TB NVME SSD and USB C enclosure is only ~200-300$ (whereas Apple charges 600$). I have noticed though that the external SSD is about 20% slower on the MacBook Pro 14" (700 MB/s) than on my 2017 iMac 27" (900 MB/s). I have tried all sorts of combinations of ports (internal and on my CalDigit Dock). I even went to an Apple Store and ran benchmarks on all Apple Silicon and a few Intel Macs they had and found that the external SSD speeds on Apple Silicon consistently were 20% slower than on Intel. Weirdly the only combination that worked with full speed on Apple Silicon was using the second Thunderbolt port on the dock. Hopefully this can be fixed in Firmware

Apple bros are the same as Tesla bros. They can not get away from each other. They are hardcore and some belittle non-Apple users. Isn't the tech industry an open market? Anyway, this channel says Mac Address so it will only be for Mac people.

I'm a software engineer and I have 140GB used on my current Mac so 512 feels like a lot for me. I wonder what you are guys doing on your computer that you need more storage. I get video editing, sure but people that are not doing that fill it with what? Pictures?

14 base model owner here and i really dont need that much power but it's great to have it. For me it was the display and the speaker. Best Cop ever

finally someone discusses the difference between the base charger vs the 96W charger. Thank you!

Been using the 15” late 2013 16gb ram 512gb retina model and upgraded to the 14” base model. It’s almost like Apple designed this MacBook for 14” and scaled it up for the 16” model. It’s just lighter, the trackpad is not ridiculously large, flex of the display lid and bottom is less than on the 16”, speakers are almost the same, lid is thinner, having same ports… It is just the most efficient choice

But: - the battery is a lot smaller - the screen is pretty small, damn i would even wish at my 16" the screen would be 19" or so... - the bezel is slightly bigger on the 14" - speakers... almost the same? yes, ALMOST.... but still a huge difference at least in direct comparison. - directly 10/16C unbinned chip in the base model Thats why i took the 16" (and also because i saw on my mums 14" convertible that 14" wont be enough for me anyways). I came from a 2010 15" MacBook Pro midclass model with better CPU and 512MB GPU which served me well for over 10 years now but its too slow, upgrade needed.

I'm leaning towards at least getting 32G of ram and 1TB ssd. I upgraded my current macbook pro(15" 2011) to 1TB SSD and 16GB of ram, and I don't know if I can survive with less storage with editing video. I am however definitely glad I held out for the larger macbook pro.
@CertifiedSlamboy3 жыл бұрын
I'd go 2TB and stay at 16GB (assuming you can't do both within budget) The new SSDs are so fast, it can fallback to swap easily anyway if you run out. The 2TB SSD would be way more important long-term imo

They should put hot corner below the camera screen. That would be really great.

My 13" macbook pro (m1, 16gb) does about 3 workdays without charging I got it before the m1 pro came out but it does everything I want so dont need another I needed a laptop with a great battery, and it delivers

I am 1 year late, but just bought the M1 pro. I don't do anything heavy but wanted the Pro so I can be cooler than others.

As impressive as the m1 is, the apple specific software optimization is even more impressive. I'd love to see a video on how it extends beyond the apple stratosphere.

I ended up getting the base 14 inch macbook pro. The main reason was that with the black friday deals going on here, the gap between this and the 1TB model was a bit much. I always prefer having more storage and ram, but for my day to day usage it's clear that the base 14inch is more than enough performance for me. We'll see how that ages over the next 4-5 years

One thing I'm really intersted to know about it how well these new Macs do with running Blender. This is my main focus and I'm aware that a powerful GPU or very powerful CPU is necessary to ensure that the vieport it updating quickly and renders don't take ages. I'd love to see this tested in Blender or similar programs such as Unreal or Maya - specifically with how the viewport functions with large scenes, rendering large images or animations and physics simulations. Traditionally Macs haven't been great at this stuff but it would be great if this was a portable blender machine. I'm so over having a windows desktop beast.

You should do a video on how the 2013 Mac Pro (if you buy the cheapest on ebay and upgrade to the max spec allowed yourself) will be just as capable.

Just curious, what do you use your MacBook Pro for? I was thinking about upgrading my M1 MacBook Air to the new 14 too!
@letsg0b0wling12 жыл бұрын
Just upgraded from the M1 Pro to the base model M1 Pro, Pro mainly because of the display. I understand why the display is limited to the PRO models but its annoying cause I know this thing is WAY over powered for what I use it for, but the screen at 120 HZ and mini LED for content viewing is just such a nice upgrade. Only thing I'm not seeing being talked about is a flicker when scenes go from Dark to bright light. Not sure if this is something that apple will address eventually, but its been an issue on the iPads with mini LED and seems to continue to have the issue on this machine.

I have a 12 something iPad that I use for drawing purchased by financing through best buy over a year. I buy a whatever phone about every 3 years, used, to save money. I don't have a laptop anymore. When I did it was an hp... Probably. I don't remember. I am not a content creator, I dont need to have the latest and greatest tech let alone apple stuff. I'm not even subscribed, but when this guy's videos pop up I watch them and like them. I don't know this guy's name...but I like him. I like the way he describes things. Do I want to be his friend or do I want to do what he does? I don't know. But I'll keep watching. Probably. Keep up the good work guy 👍 Do I say probably too much? Probably.

I have an M1 Air, and to be quite frank, the *only* thing I need more of is RAM. Lots of ram. But jumping from an Air to a Max 64gb? I think I'll wait for the next gen and see how things progress

For $2k i feel it should at least come with 1TB of storage. Though I have to admit, this is the first MacBook that intrigues me enough that I would consider it an option if I went shopping for a new laptop.
