@Hicks That's exactly it. You have to relearn everything like keyboard short cuts and how to change stuff on the system. It's a big pain. Also if you try to use apple applications instead of Microsoft I.e. Words that is a big hassle in terms of learning how to use each application and then if you want to send your work to someone with Microsoft applications there are compatibility issues to deal with. I honestly don't think it's worth the hassle which is why I am going back to Windows as that's what I use at work.

Hi everyone, I purchased the dell Xps 13 in march 2021. I am in love with the structure, size, and weight of the laptop. It is very easy to transport and fit anywhere. I love how I am able to plug my charger on both sides of the laptop without bending my charger. One thing that really disappointed me was the camera quality. For that I can say apple is better at. I am satisfied with the battery life but I do realize that when my laptop is at very low battery, its performance is slow. I am also satisfied with the audio. I was also able to watch many videos, shows, movies this summer and I can say that I was very happy with the screen and display. The laptop can sometimes heat up here and there but I don't hear a strong fan noise like apple which I like. To sum up, I am very happy with my laptop but I really hope that dell improves its camera quality.

As a Windows user for a while, I used to be close minded in terms of using Macbook before. There are several factors which influenced me to be that way. The most understandable reasons are its price and the OS. However, due to work-related issues, I decided to buy Macbook Pro. It is not a perfect device (contrary to what others may think) but so far, after 2 months, it is undeniably worth it and a good investment for the next years to come. 🙂

Yeah, that's the thing I'm really worried about. I've been searching for a new Windows laptop to replace my surface book 2 and I've been considering the Dell XPS 15 but for battery life that low and problems with overheating... I just don't think it's worth the price. I mean it's a great laptop and the fact that the memory cards can easily be replaced does certainly make it attractive. But I still don't think it's worth breaking the bank for.

Here are few facts about Dell XPS 13" - The carbon fibre like finish surrounding the keypad and keyboard will start peeling off or become sticky in a year - The Hinges will break or become loose. When it breaks , the bottom rear side chassis opens up shows the internals - Starts to heat crazily for no apparent reason. ( this may be because of Windows ) - Often goes blank or not come up correctly when connected to a dell dock - the touchpad and keyboard occasionally become so hot that , they are not touchable - Battery is a Joke in dell - Worst of all: keeps running even after closing the lid and shoving in the backpack. The whole thing would have caught fire inside the backpack all these experience from the dell xps 13" given to me at work .. I own a M1 air for personal use your verdict is so right. The so called " Features " of dell are not usable due to the massive inconsistency on how things work and how unreliable and clumsy they are in their day to day workloads

I have one related question: if I use this laptop anchored to my home desk (i.e. with peripherals such as external screen and keyboard and so on), is it still a good choice? Because of the pandemic, I will do most of my work (economics data analysis and programming) at home in the near future (so aesthetics or portability are not a problem or me); performance is I care more actually. Do you think XPS 13 is a good choice for this setting? Thanks again! (Addenda: I am not fond of switching to Apple and I don't edit videos; I seldom play CSGO)

Thanks for watching and I appreciate your comments :) If you would like to setup as a work station with flexibility (ie. unplug to use elsewhere), it's actually pretty great. My go-to setup is having it on a desk connected to an external display via an eGPU with peripherals and it hasn't been an issue either than eGPU bugs. Would recommend getting some kind of thunderbolt dock or way of extending IO in this setting though- 2 usb C ports is quite limited.

Its such a shame. I love the look of the Dell- thin bezels and such sleek design. The MacBook ...bleh. still feels like buying 2012's laptop as far as looks. I hope Apple will refresh the design. A 15" or 16" MBP, slim bezels and even better 2nd gen M chip will be a true game changer. I want the Dell's good looks with the Mac performance in a bigger package!

Thanks a lot for the very good review. comparing both those laptop was exactly what I was looking for and indeed performance and battery life is most important. I’m looking to buy the Mac book pro. But maybe I should wait for the M2 processor to come out next year. What do you think ?
@Robert-kx8mp
@Robert-kx8mp 3 жыл бұрын
I think it depends if you really need that additonal performance, whether you'd perfer a larger screen (14"/16"), and whether you are planning to spend more on 32GB or 64GB RAM options (if available). The new MBP models should come with mini LED diplays, that promise amazing contrast for folks working in the visual arts. If you can afford to wait, and are intending to spend about 35% more than the current 13" model, then wait. I love my 13" M1 MBP, but I have a Mac Pro 2019 for my daily workstation, and only use the MBP for light use or when traveling.

Thanks for the video. Was helpful. Bought an M1 Macbook Pro (13") about 18 months ago. Just a side note: I have played Rise of Tomb Raider (Steam) and it did as good or even better than my desktop pc (will not disclose the value nor specs, but it is good), just got a bit warm. Can't really say it was hot. Cheers

Though I'm in the apple ecosystem I went for the xps because its features fitted me better, I love the design and I'm used to windows and I like most things about it. MacOS never left a good impression on me, except airdrop. Also didn't want to give apple any more money lol.

Personally I dont think you should even consider XPS 13 to M1 mac, the max is just plain superior. However what I really think is worth thinking about is the XPS 15 models with a Nvidia GPU which makes a HUGE difference in power. If refurbished a XPS 15 1 terrabyte, 1650ti, model is 2.6 grand and the 500gig model is 2.3 grand same price as a high end M1. Now THAT with the Nvidia Gpu and the larger gorgeous infinity edge display makes it vastly superior to the M1.
@smariko3
@smariko3 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, undoubtedly the 15 would be a beast but the power efficiency of M1 may win over a lot of users still. Battery life goes often underated but I find is a very important feature for most users.

Main advantage of both air M1 and Pro M1 is portability+performance and this is what the M1 was defined, it cant even force the fan on Pro M1 run at max same as the intel version. So for the M1 we should use the portable line of XPS which is XPS 13. If you compare power of Dell XpS 15 with Macbook M1 line, its like you compare the ultrabook with the desktop and say that it weaker. The candidate to compare with Dell XPS 15 should be Macbook Pro 16 with M1X.
@User-cb4jm
@User-cb4jm 3 жыл бұрын
I mean the XPS 15 competes directly against the MBP 16 or at least the higher end MBP 13 with the 4 ports. Those should be coming out with a more powerful chip, and will be a match for the XPS 15 as the base M1 Pro/Air are geared towards efficiency.

Did you do any real world data transfer tests comparing the new Thunderbolt 4 ports of the M1 MBP with the ports on the Dell? I've seen some nasty surprises when various PC manufactures fail to properly implement either USB-C or Thunderbolt and end up with garbage data transfer rates.

Love the M1 Mac but the form factor is just so tired. I left the Apple eco system a few years ago and I don't suffer from M1 envy. I probably will when the M1X or M2 MacBook is released but for now the 9500 Frost White XPS (10th gen i7, UHD touchscreen, 1.5G SSD, 16G ram) is plenty fine for this geek. But as with all things tech, it depends where one's at financially and what one's needs are. Bias isn't the issue for me, Windows or Apple ecosystem. In fact, I just recommended to a student on Reddit looking to buy a laptop to go with the M1 MacBook Air over the XPS. It's just more reliable out of the box and economically feasible, let alone functionally superior, to the XPS. And you are right, Dell and other Windows-Android-based companies have a lot of catchup to do. Thanks for the comparative review. I found it fair. Good job!

I'm converted to like the MacBook but still pushed for 1. having to spend more cash to use a dongle for the MacBook when it ships standard with the xps 2. The major app incompatibility issues with the os...I'm a student with work to do so the performance will be amazing but I must have the mortal Kombat 11 or x on my PC without having to worry about incompatibility. Bought an XPS in 2016 and was plagued with video driver issues, random shut downs and a bunch of other software issues. Beautiful hardware let down by windows software; especially after spending $1300+ on a machine. Bought a MacBook Pro in 2018, and haven’t had a single issue till date. Sometimes it’s annoying not having an app be compatible with MacOS, and the amount of freedom within the OS. At the end of the day, you can have better hardware, but if the overall experience inhibits your workflow, mac all the way.

4k displays on laptops are pretty dumb imo. I have a 4k touchscreen laptop and it's brutal on battery life. After owning my laptop it's easy to see why Apple stays Non-Touch, Non-4k. M1 Chip make me want to switch to Mac, especially when it outperforms, longer battery life, and costs less than "equivalent" PCs.

I agree about many PC users will never switch to Mac. For a decade, during and after university, I hated Apple with a passion. I only began to change my opinion after owning an iPhone 5. The quality and support I got from Apple on that iPhone motivated me to try a Macbook Pro. That iPhone lasted 6 years, and I only replaced it because my carrier forced me to upgrade to a device with newer radios.

I am actually going back from Apple MBPRO 2018 4core 2.3Ghz to Dell XPS 9310 i7 1185G7 cpu because of windows 11. When I turned off all the nice animations on MB it was kind of slow in browsing and response. i have tested how M1 performed, and it would solve my problems, but also my old laptop - core 2 duo with windows 11 responded nicely. I even tried windows 11 through bootcamp on my macbook, but there is significant battery life drop and you cant use touch id or touchbar...
