Hey, one thing to notice, I ran the very same cpu clock on cinebench on Windows and Mac. i7 4790k with 4.6GHz got 1900-ish on Windows, but 2100-ish on Catalina. Of course it is a Hackintosh machine but hey the different is there.

The MacBook Pro has a 28W CPU where as the Dell XPS 13 has a 15W CPU with a 25W power limit. That's why the Core i5 and Core i7 are so close in performance. 28W Windows laptops are due in Q2.

Carbon fiber is literal fibers of carbon in a matrix. The matrix is relatively hard, not rubber-like. Laptops coat the carbon fiber with something to make it feel like rubber.

MacBook 13" 1800$ has 28w CPU instead of the 15w you get in the base 1299$ model, and this let the CPU to have higher base clock than normal 15w CPUs. So here's why base frequency of MacBook i5 is still higher than the i7 on the Dell, which is rated 15w (but tuned to 25w by Dell).

It's quite funny how people will say that the MacBook gets very hot and throttles while ALL other ultrabooks do the same thing. Even the price difference between Apple and others is very small today, so I really don't see the point in complaining.

David A. Exactly. People complain about Macs being expensive but you can use the same MacBook for so many years before you’ll no longer receive updates. Try that with a Dell, you’d be lucky to get 3. I’ve known people with MacBooks they were able to use with no issue for 8 years.

I have a Macbook Pro 2012. You can actually upgrade the ram to 16gb, and increase the storage or replace it with SSD i believe. Basically still good to use. I use mine all the time

The resolutions is probably the same, you can see that the dell XPS is running 1294x791 which is lower than the screen resolution so I don’t see why he wouldn’t have set it to be the same on the MacBook.

That color comparison page that you show at 6:21 does in fact show up on the XPS 13 9300. I'm using the model right now. You need to make sure the Use HDR option is switched on in the Windows Display settings. Admittedly, the XPS 13 claims to provide a 90% DCI-P3 color space, while the MacBook Pro 2020 claims 99%, so the paint still stands. And what matters more than colour space in my opinion is contrast ratio, and neither of these screens are OLED yet so the blacks are still bleeding light.

It depends on what you want from the screen there's people that don't get that pumped up brightness and contrast doesn't make a good screen: it makes it "louder" and a "clear" distinction. But it's certainly won't show how the small change in colours in gradient is clearer to see. So movies, video editing etc will worth it.

Went with Mac after comparing with Dell. Dell batteries degrade really quickly, my 4 year old XPS has 1.5hr life compared to 8 year old MacBook air having 3.5hr life. In essence, the older Air is actually more usable now.

One thing that really drives me nuts about Mac OS is if you multiple monitors like I do then you won't be able drag multiple apps on each other if one is maximized. Where in windows you do not have this issue.

Something that people don't mention is the bezels allow extra space at the bottom of the machine where you palms rest below the keyboard. Linus Tech Tips has done a video where they talk about this. If you have larger hands you may have a better experience with the MBP. The XPS is an awesome machine though.

Maybe you save your money and don’t upgrade either. Whether you should upgrade RAM depends on what you use it for. The standard 16GB RAM is enough for all basic tasks and even midrange pro photo and video editing; 32GB is for Photoshop power users, multiple virtual machines, if you do that sort of thing. There’s little chance that you have a good reason to upgrade the CPU; with most thin laptops the higher clock speed can’t be sustained for long because of power and cooling limits.

Max, I think maybe you should redo that color gamut test. I noticed that you used a web browser to open the logo on both laptops, but almost all windows web browsers don't have an adequate color management. Maybe you could download the image and open it on photoshop to confirm your findings.
