Graham is the ASMR of computer repair. I always feel more relaxed after watching his videos.

Superb as usual. Just enough words and very useful explanations of Mac quirks in the course of the job. Your calm and matter of fact approach is a rarity on American repair vids now hence the steady success of Australian and eastern European sites showing diagnosis to completion without drama and rambling.

The Louis Rossmann of the UK. Love the video and the commentary. Louis always has problems getting parts and sometimes relies on donor boards. Do you have the same problems getting parts? or is it specific parts? Great video!

I use the Wiha 6-Piece Precision Screwdrivers (Pentalobe). Model No. 26794 when working on Macbooks. I also have the Torx set.
@carlosgarciaoropeza54802 жыл бұрын
Yes Mark. Completely agree with you. Wiha also offers T3 as an individual part (some of us don't like that any manufacturer forces us to buy the whole set). All the best.

21:37 I know that you have a new track pad Graham, but it's quite east to damage the track pad with that spudger when removing the middle cell. Trust me, ask me how I know 😄 Only ten screws to get the track pad out and it's probably quite serviceable. The spudger can potentially get between the track pad and the top case and rip components/ traces off the track pad.

Hotdog pasta. A flatmate of mine, who was a chef no less, would make a giant pan of this and leave it out for days, just heaping some in to a bowl every now and then. I came back from a night out once and went for a smoke on the balcony. It was already light. I saw two cats fighting so grabbed a piece of hotdog from inside and threw it to try and separate them. Next minute, I see another cat hop over a fence in the distance, then two more on another balcony about 50m away. Then more, and more, and more cats appearing out of nowhere, all in different places. As far as I could see there were cats. There must have been minimum 30 cats. I’m launching pieces of hot dog as far as I can. They’re landing in gardens and on balconies. There was one balcony with two cats on just out of reach. Kept trying until I finally nailed it, launching this piece of hotdog as hard as I possibly could. It was such a surreal moment that I look back on quite fondly. I wonder if the cats ate them all or everyone wondered why the fuck there were pieces of hotdog on their balcony or in their gardens.

you can heat a run-of-the-mill lithium polymer cell to 60°C with no problem, at which point it will be too hot to touch anyway. So as long as you can work with it you will not overheat it. Be careful of your heating method though. Many heating methods have very imprecise thermostats, i.e. ovens are notorious for overshooting set temperatures by a large margin.

My thought is LG needs to put three of those thunderbird ports on the board. Separated by at least a half inch separation. Don't have to be thunderbird could be three different ports for all I care but one hdmi would certainly benefit the user.

@Adamant_IT2 жыл бұрын
I think it was about £130 parts cost... could've pushed it down a little, speaker might've been ok I I'd scraped the burned stuff off the bottom, but if the resonator chamber isn't sealed it'll sound awful. Likewise, could pick a second hand chassis in more worn condition that might cost less, etc. This was a good factory-looking finish though.

hey a good old fashioned repair vid much better than live stream fiddling with ram brain damage!
@kdawg34842 жыл бұрын
Not sure why you're so bizarrely fixated and annoyed that their live streams are exactly what their live streams have always been, and the repair videos are exactly what the repair videos have always been. The live streams are casual, flexible, and interactive. (The _chat_ asked them to take a look at the B-Die RAM they had on hand as a continuation of a conversation from the previous week.) They're even on separate channels. The live streams may just not be your cup of tea, and that's fine; don't watch them. However, don't get in the live stream chat and be annoying, insulting, and disruptive about it like you were in the last live stream. And don't carry that over to this channel like you're doing now.

Since you pointed out to be careful with the alcohol .... we have a dead laptop at work that got a devastating liquid damage (completely spilled over the keyboard and let it settle for one day) and my colleages are just trying to get the gunk off by submerging the whole board + display assembly into alcohol... Any chance for the thing to survive? (I told them to clean it with alcohol and got them a toothbrush, but less did I know they were such savages XD)

When you discover a big obvious problem with a laptop or other electronics, do you contact the client and discuss what needs to be done? Thank you 🤓
@bdhale342 жыл бұрын
Can't imagine a speaker could stop a computer from working? A normal computer sure I'm with you but this is an Apple product, the touchpad can make the webcam stop working and/or make it not boot. Apple is special, their engineering is such that they channel liquid directly to where it will cause the most damage, they put 48v backlight power a millimeter away from a .5v data line.

@4sp3ro2 жыл бұрын
The short did not cause any damage to the chassis, why are you only looking to increase the cost of the repair?
@Adamant_IT2 жыл бұрын
There's cost of parts, and cost of labour. If you throw in a labour-intensive stage, like replacing am Apple Butterfly Keyboard, you add labour cost. It might be cheaper to buy more expensive parts in order to lower the labour cost. This actually results in me making less profit on the final bill, so I usually go for less parts more labour when I can.

To make repair that little bit more of a ballache and ideally discourage people to the point of taking it to Apple where they can charge $199. You're also supposed to believe this strategy is the only way to make a laptop thin when these cell packs could easily be bonded to a thin plastic plate/frame which could be secured using screws like just about every other thin laptop ever made.
@samjones19542 жыл бұрын
why even bother fixing it. Just tell the client that it was their foolishness to purchase a non-fixable Laptop from Apple. Inform them that Apple spend 40% of what you paid for this unit to engineer it to be non fixable. Sorry for your loss, Go buy an Acer or Asus.
@samjones19542 жыл бұрын
Also, let us not forget that Apple has sued independent guys like you for fixing an Apple product. And worse, you are documenting all their evidence for them. You will also not find new product for replacement. All that you will find is pre-owned parts as Apple does not offer new OEM to anyone but their registered repair personel.
