@@MarkSass As most indicators do.. I use the MACD in my trading and have found it to be one of the most reliable. If the mouth opens wide pointing down the underlying goes in to a down cycle if the mouth points up the underlying will go into an up cycle. Happy Trading!

Larry check ADX DMI indicator which is for me much better tool. The MACD has high Inertia and the ADX DMI indicator, tells You the Buying and Selling pressure sepperately and the strenght of the trend all in the same Histogram, whereas MACD must be also anallyed along the RSI indicator. In terms of technical indicators, I use volume, RSI, and PPO. Confirmation of positive or negative divergent has been pretty effective strategy in my trading.

So, the MACD provides information indicating bear/bull trend which is useful in the short term. As you mentioned it could indicate what the big players (hedge funds) are doing as they tend to trade in the short term. Therefore, potentially indicating their sentiment. It's a popular tool used by many investors so it is also important to consider that when trading.

regarding trading, i watched other vlogger who worked in JPMorgan and Barclays, they said that institution means big banks and hedge fund are not using technical indicator like MACD, RSI and MA (moving averages)

I'll say that the MACD is more useful from a longer-term perspective and not so much a short-term signal. It works better on large-cap companies and indices like Nasdaq compared to small caps. But that's just my opinion based on my observations.

All indicators are derivatives of price and volume, most are useless. Having said that, rsi gives you a better view on divergence if you're bad at spotting it on a chart, and moving averages give you a view on the slope of a chart if you're bad at spotting it.

I prefer analyzing simple price-volume action because, at the end of the day, all indicators are derived from the price action.

Excellent Larry, good job, although I am curious. If you are a very long term investor, say 7 years minimum does MACD even matter?

Not at all. It's only an entry signal for short term trades

I would say that if you're ultra-long term (10+ years), then the MACD is not as useful. BUT - if you have a 1-2 year horizon, then you can use the Monthly Chart where the MACD Crossovers can be used for longer-term asset allocation decisions. In my video, I said there were timeframes like 1-minute, 1-day...there are also timeframes like 1-week and 1-month. The longer term your horizon, the more likely you will use the 1-month chart where the MACD can still be powerful there.

Good stuff. Tech analysis in cfa book is very small and it’s a bs. You have a good econ and fundamental coverage for people, stick to that. Costco and Walmart video was good, Walmart was undervalued for a while, its too late to rely on them to outperform other industries in the future
