4:33 you should've just asked, Mac! I got you: So basically, Crayola was always meant for kids, specifically students, with the goal of making safe and affordable school supplies. Yes they were once considered luxury, but only for the versions of their products that were catered toward OLDER students, art students to be exact. They even created courses for teachers to understand how to use crayola products and that course still exists today. That said, I'm assuming they found more success in their school-supplies area and took off with that. The famous 64 color with built-in sharpener box actually came out in the 50s and since then they've been heavy on the kids stuff, even buying the company behind silly putty. I'm sure there was a degree of inspiration from brands like Easy-Bake as it uses the same bulb, but it may not have been directly motivated as Easy Bake started in the 60s so they were fairly late to the party. Actually, based on the timeline, it could be related to their 100 year anniversary. Also, a lot of the products released that same year seemed waste-oriented, so they may have been trying to reduce product waste both within their factory as well as for consumers who might be tempted to throw out broken crayons. For example, the paperless twist crayons came out that year as well. Anyway, for anyone who is interested, you can view the full timeline here from Crayola themselves! : www.crayola.com/about-us/company/-/media/Crayola/About%20Us/History/Colorful%20Moments%20in%20Time_2023_102.pdf
