I'm from Florina too, Greek Macedonian, ancestors fought for the Greek army, but I still grew up with the Macedonian language, culture, and food from my Yiayia, Baba, and Dedo too, and called ourselves multiethnic Greek-Macedonians. Your ignorance suggests to me that you're either a Christian Turk refugee or too badly brainwashed by Greek nationalist propaganda and need to get out and actually travel to the villages around Florina and check out the festivals. A lot of the time they sing in Macedonian, songs like Makedonsko Devojce and local songs about Lerin (Florina). Can you tell me what Zaramo means in Greek? Nothing, right? In Macedonian it means "for the shoulder" (za ramo) as you dance it shoulder to shoulder. ;) Anyway, the point I'm getting to is that we are culturally the same people as our brothers from the north, especially across the southern part, and around Bitola, and around Lake Ohrid. Same language, same culture, same food, same dances. Ethnic Macedonians in Greece's borders aren't unique to Florina and Kostur either, I know of a tonne of villages in West Macedonia, and also Central Macedonia around Pella, and Imathia, and along the north near the border. You should learn to be more respectful towards the citizens you share land with, we've been here far longer than you hateful fascist Pontians.

What people fail to understand is that in many places like Macedonia, Greeks, Bulgarians and Serbians lived together and formed a similar kind of culture and tradition under the Orthodox non-Turkish identity. In a multiethnic state like the Ottoman Empire, traditions were formed more in a geographical way, rather than ethnic. Greek Epirotes are similar to south Albanians, Greek Macedonians are similar to Vardar Bulgarians and Serbians to an extent, Thracians are similar to some Bulgarians so on and so forth. Costumes are similar, food is similar, songs are similar. At the end of the day, we are all Balkan.
@ggmak1883 Жыл бұрын
@@mithridates1418 In general good comment, but why you use nonexistent term like Vardar Bulgarian?! Those people are Macedonians. Macedonians from Macedonia(now north) and Macedonians from Greece. It is that simple.
@mithridates1418 Жыл бұрын
@@ggmak1883 There is no Macedonian nation. Macedonians are simply a sub group of the Greek nation. The citizens of "North Macedonia" are for the most part of Bulgarian descent with a big Albanian minority. Nothing to do with the term Macedonia and its history besides geographical proximity.
@ggmak1883 Жыл бұрын
@@mithridates1418 When it comes to term nation, you should know that when one state exist, by default is a nation. Don't mix up the terms people and nation. Therefore, the nation of North Macedonia is called Macedonians. North Macedonia is a multicultural state> Majority Macedonians, then Albanians, Turks, Serbs etc... There is no such "pure" state. Regarding your note about Albanians, I will say that Greece has quite lot, more then 500 000. I think that you should be more open to the reality and to spread your perspective.
@mithridates1418 Жыл бұрын
@@ggmak1883 That's one meaning of the word which is more modern, more American and it's used more as a legal term rather than historical. The original meaning of the word nation is "a historically constituted, stable community of people, formed based on a common language, territory, economic life, ethnicity and/or psychological make-up manifested in a common culture." In other words, there are literally more countries than there are nations. For example Greece and Cyprus are two different states but their peoples belong to the same nation. Same with France and Monaco, Italy and San Marino, and arguably even Russia-Belarus-Ukraine, Germany-Austria-Switzerland, Spain and Andorra, Serbia and Montenegro, Czechia and Slovakia, South Korea and North Korea and guess what, Bulgaria and "North Macedonia". There are numerous examples of historically identical people who ended up on different states because of various of reasons. Furthermore, there are even nations that don't have a state, like Kurds, Assyrians and Romani people. Good knowledge of history would "unlock" to you my point of view. You see things in a disturbingly shallow way.

Ok so Zaramo comes from Bulgarian and means sth. Like "on the shoulder". What you are asking is a very nice q. Because Macedonia was occupied by Bulgarians Greeks had to learn Bulgarian to communicate. When Bulgarians left, these Greeks had forgotten their language but not their origins. This Bulgarian dialect spoken in Greece is called "Dopika" and the people speaking it, "Dopioi" and they are 100% Greeks since their heroes speaking Dopika fought for Greece such as Captain Garefis, Captain Agras and Captain Kottas. You will not find most of the Dopika songs in Skopje such as Bukite Rasvivat, Zaramo, Patrunino, Pusteno, Starchko and many more. Have a nice day! Macedonia is Greece!
