I've bought two "machetes" through the years. One a classic but cheap Latin style a picked up at the local Harbor Freight store for next to nothing since I was helping out my cousin by clearing out brush on land she inherited when her father died. The other, though marketed as a "machete", in my opinion feels more like a dedicated weapon, that being Cold Steel's "Smachet" model that I ordered from them. In style it resembles the Barong that you featured in this video, except it is also sharpened from the tip to about 1/3 of the way back towards the hilt on the spine side of the blade.

The Komodo blade would be useful for draw cuts as a utility blade. Most knives, you use the belly of the blade for that, but with that shape, you can use the very end, so it is like the knife is functionally longer than a conventional shaped-blade of the same length. I have the Termor and Tenacious, both good, very sharp. Not sure about the Oso Sweet.

Yeah I really dig the CS spears but I'm going for something like a billhook or a glaive on a 3-4 ft shaft. The pra or the dao with some grinder work should fill the bill. "Need" it for hallways and small apartment clearing, walls are too thin for fire arms.

What style would you recommend for more of a slashing purpose? and also why would you want the blade to curve away since it would make for a longer swing?? if you know. i only ask because i see that some do.
@WeAllJuggleKnives9 жыл бұрын
+Cameron Phare - Latin style or Panga type machetes would be best for slashing. If a blade is curved backward, like a scimitar or a katana, it forces you to turn into the target to keep the edge in contact as you are simultaneously drawing the blade across, so this more complicated motion is good for slicing off limbs or slicing enemies in half.
@Deafmonkey2111 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I'm looking for something with a bit more steel in its construction and a two-handed grip, so maybe I'll look more at cutlass type blades.

Hello, I would like to know who in your opinion is the best machetes on the market day, today. I'm looking for a machete that is good in the use of the machete but it can also be useful for breaking wood for the fire and quite heavy work, where do you recommend?
@WeAllJuggleKnives7 жыл бұрын
For heavy work you want Aranyik Machetes from Thailand.
@micheletennis877 жыл бұрын
Ciao, would like to ask your advice because I want to make a more powerful possibilile and excellent quality cutting sets so that long hard me, I would take a compact knife (but robust and reliable) and a larger (machete) needed in severe environments, that in addition to machetes function also let me split the wood for the fire or making a shelter. For the compact knife (blade on 10/11 cm) it is undecided whether it is best stainless steel or carbon steel? I propose tropongo three models and tell me what you think is better: Esee 3 steel 1095, Lionsteel M4 steel M390 or Fallkniven F1 VG 10 laminate. Let me know you which is the best choice. For the good quality machete seem the Ontario Bar in 1095 and the Ka steel, but specifically I do not know which one to choose, you have one in particular that you would recommend? Let me know which two tools would fall your choice, thank you very much Michael.
@WeAllJuggleKnives7 жыл бұрын
I would pick the Fallkniven F1, I like the grind and it is a good slicer, and it will resist rust the best. For the machete maybe Condor Warlock.
@gusburnett63917 жыл бұрын
I would like a machete able to just be an all rounder, but especially in clearing thicker branches, brambles etc and well as a bit of wood work, such as whittling. But if that isn't possible I also have another very good knife which I can use for more precise stuff, so it doesn't have to necessarily be a all in one. Ideally a low ish price, so what would you recommend?

Would need something long like a spear, so I guess the cutlass machete since it is one of the longest and not excessively light. But it won't do anything unless it hits some small vital spot like through the eye or heart but I don't think a bear would stand still long enough to allow that lol.

I bought a condor Bowie machete. Not something I recommend. It is not balanced well at all. Almost every hit glances off just due to the geometry of the blade. I have a cold steel Latin machete that after being resharpened has not ceased to amaze. Recently ordered a could steel 24 inch Latin with hand guard and a panga also from cold steel. You just can't go wrong with their products imho. Their cheap and if they don't come as sharp as you eat just tune them up yourself and you have a very reliable tool. Question though. Do you think I will have better chopping power/leverage from a 24 inch machete than I did with my 18 inch one or do you think that the length is probably going to result in less chopping power? Cause I figured it would give it more but I'm not sure since it's too long it might not carry force the same..
@WeAllJuggleKnives7 жыл бұрын
The longer machete will have more power if you hit near the end of the blade, because it has more time and distance to accelerate, and it has more mass. Force = Mass X Acceleration :]

Mawo Duffer why
@Divine_Serpent_Geh6 жыл бұрын
Comic Book Guy The teeth on the back of the machete are created by taking metal out of the spine of the machete. A machete is generally going to be used in chopping and high impact cuts, this removal of metal on the spine due to the saw teeth weakens the integrity of the machete overall. Stress from repeated impacts builds much easier where those saw teeth are, and can possibly snap the blade. They look cool, but I wouldn’t buy a machete with a saw-back.
