Really loved this song! I love how you even incorporated some of the odd chanting Keiichi Okabe loves to put in his tracks. And I'm glad to hear you enjoyed Nier after giving it another go. Normally I say first impressions matter a lot with games, but there's just so much to Nier that kind of blows normal gaming conventions out of the water. Though I'm curious. Did you finish the story, or did you "finish" the story if you know what I mean. I find that most people are surprised that there is still a lot more content past the first few "playthroughs."

Holy crap. Way to start 2018 strong; this is a masterpiece of a song. The lyrics have a poetry to them, telling the story of the game without giving anything away to someone who hasn't played it but desperately wants to (someone like me), but they also combine in a way that has such a wonderful sound through the combination of syllables. Excellent melody, and just... just such a good sound to it all. It reminds me of the introspective beauty drawing inspiration from technology that we saw in the visuals of Blade Runner 2049 last year, except in audio form. This is outstanding :)

Almost 2 years after this song was released, I'm here again to listen to it again. And I just want to say: Thank you for this masterpiece Gavin. Storytime: I really first listened to the song at the end of 2018. I haven't played or even watched a video about Nier: Automata (yet) but the song really stuck with me and my girlfriend. A few weeks later with a lot of different problems, were only a few came from our relationship, she decided to leave me because everything was too much. I played the song a lot after that because I was asking myself too if I had a heart after all. It really helped to ease the pain. Only a few days later, we met again. She said I was right about her just escaping from the relationship because it was the easiest thing to do to reduce her problems. It changed or relationship for the better. Some time after that, in 2019, I took the chance and bought Nier: Automata in a steam sale to see what the fuzz was all about. And so far, most of the games I bought because Gavin made a great song about it, it was totally worth the money. So I was playing through Nier: Automata, my now-fiancée watching me play, enjoying the story together. Again and again we listened to the song and the more we knew the story, the more we understood the depth of the song and the true meaning of those words. Nier: Automata changed me (to a degree) and without you Gavin, I doubt I'd ever gave the game a shot. It changed me for the better, at least I think so. It was a unique experience and we both liked the game so much, we took a bit of it into our life. Our son, who is born in a few weeks, gets Emil as his middle name. All of those wonderful things thanks to you Gavin. This wasn't the first time your music helped me through hard times and I bet it won't be the last. A simple thank you is barely enough to describe what you mean to me, and many others as well. I love your art, your work is wonderful and I am grateful to be alive right now to listen to the amazing sounds you're enlighten the world with. Thank you.

The Keyboard & Mouse control also is janky af, you can feel they just used remapping to convert Mouse movement into virtual Joystick movement (especially since there's a max. speed). Sure, it somehow works, but it's definitely one of the worst PC ports I ever saw. And the fact they never patched it (The FAR mod still is kinda necessary) makes it even worse. Really like the song, but one quick error to point out with the subtitles. 4:24 "desing" instead of "design". Not sure if it's fixable without reuploading the video, just wanted to mention it as something to keep an eye out for.
DallaswithaD *narrows eyes* You did that on purpose, didn't you?

I know this one has been up for months but it's one of the handful I keep playing over and over again. I also end up linking this one to my D&D friends a lot because of the meaning behind it. This one and "The Natural Heart" are two of my favorites for pointing out "humanity". I'm really glad you do all of these original songs for games, especially when your songs echo the meaning the game was trying to convey. You probably get all this a lot, but thanks all the same. :)

I know very little about Nier Automata but this song makes me want to play it. "If I don't have a heart, then what is broken?" what a powerful line

The vocals, lyrics, music and video are absolutely amazing. This is by far one of the best songs that you've made. Especially for fans of the game.

I've never played this game but this song is amazing. it tells an amazing tale of not being human and stuck in a unhappy cycle. but can be related to real life with how our world is with Mental Health issues rising and everything going on and how Humanity is doomed to repeat our mistakes. its a song but the sorrow of humanity and our mistakes, not learning from our past. TLDR: beautiful song
@Aoenias Жыл бұрын
It's poetic in that the robots wish to be alive, to be human, and they are trapped in an endless cycle of conflict and suffering and have yet to realize that this is itself what it means to be human. That they are already human. And the only ones to realize this, they knew it would drive them all mad, so they fabricated this cyclical lie under the guise of service to a Humanity that no longer exists.

Another Triumph of music. I absolutely love everything you do. Nier Automata resonated with me in many ways and you've encapsulated that resonance in this piece. Sharm's voice is fantastic!

This song captures the feeling of the game so well, it makes me cry every time. The voices, the background, the video... all ballanced into perfection. A great work from two great artists about a great game!

Another Excellent Video! I love the double meaning of the chorus. It's like, "if I don't have a heart, then why am I feeling this pain" or "if I don't have a heart, then why not?" Beautiful!

so this is my first comment on youtube. I've been a fan for years but just never got around to making a channel to comment. I really just wanted to say how amazing i think your songs and how much they helped me. For several years now my emotions dulled almost to the point of null but time and time again awesome songs like these gave me respite at the end of the day and something to look forward too. I recently found my passion in blacksmithing and my worst days are behind me but I just really didn't want to leave my appreciation unsaid. I'm truly grateful people like you exist. Thanks.

Of all the games in 2021, I hope Nier Replicant gets a song most so we can get a companion for both this song and a game that deserves it that most people missed the first time. Also, almost 3 years later and this one still hits just as hard as it did the first time

It's been a year since I played this beautiful game but jesus, just hearing the start that sounded close to one of the songs there, I think maybe the desert or the forest kingdom theme, just made me tear up a bit. That game will forever have a special place in my heart.

Curious Gav, while every song you make is the best song you ever made, I for one would like to know just what you're thoughts of the game are. Personally it's my favourite of all time.

I liked it a lot. I generally find anime style stuff hard to enjoy, it just tends to not click with me story-wise or aesthetically. But this one was great!
@sultanmalik98086 жыл бұрын
miracleofsound Glad to hear it Gav, while I myself am an Anime fanatic, I can understand your reasons. It is merely a matter of preference and little else(contrary to how... others would respond). My thanks for replying so soon( I figuratively FREAKED when I saw that) and further thanks for answering my question.

Seems like I am two and a half years late to post an original comment, but... I must point out something that resonated with me especially strongly. It's how the entire song could easily be perceived as being sung by 2B, and how all the spoken lines have her voice quality and intonations. Sharm isn't Kira Buckland (English voice actor/2B), but she did an outstanding job getting into character. I'll be honest, even as a diehard Miracle of Sound fan, I was rather expecting you to miss the point of the game, misrepresent the story or latch onto a minor secondary theme. But you did it justice, in the arrangement and the lyrics and the vocals. The more I think about how challenging it must have been, the more I am amazed. Thank you, Gavin. Thank you, Sharm. Thank you, everyone who brought this masterpiece to us.

Everyone saying their favorite lines, I'll throw mine out. "The sting of the flavor, bittersweet." That line shows so much understanding about Automata's story. Automata isn't another "robots be people too" story, it's a story about people trying to live in a really fucked up world. Yes, androids feel emotions, but is that a good thing? Life sucks. It's full of hardship and pain. Why live in a world like that? What's the reason for living if life is just a series of suffering and disappointment? That's what Nier's story is about. It's a story about people and nihilism thinly disguised as a story about machines.

Indeed, but as the pods put it: "however, life is all about the struggles within this cycle. That is what we believe." "A future is not given to you. It is something you.must take for yourself."
