LYRICS:
Through Life And Loss Gavin Dunne 2020
The streets spin shimmers
And the walls they curl
The grip of greed it reigns
There's just one track to lead this moving train
The price of progress is a dying world
The price of trust is pain
After the wrath a bitter shame
Look up
Into the night
Pillars uprisen
Bathe all in their light
Forward we run
Splinter the steel
Weaken the wheel
Through life and loss
Rivers of soul are drying
The heavy cost
Of halting the hands of time
Through life and loss
Tired eyes of home are crying
The heavy cost
Of moving outside the lines
Intertwined
Green glow will fade
The sky blocks out the sun
The city never sleeps
Bleeding the life out through these open wounds
The lengths we've gone to
And the things we've done
The sacrifices steep
Dark karma's flowers are in bloom
Look out
Out at the tears
Out at the faces we've frozen in fear
Forward we run
Darken the gleam
Break the machine
Through life and loss
The rivers of soul are drying
The heavy cost
Of halting the hands of time
Through life and loss
The tired eyes of home are crying
The heavy cost
Of moving outside the lines
Intertwined
Too much power
Hearts corrupted
Fates deflowered
Interrupted
Now
When we lose everything that defines us
Can we hold to the promise that binds us?
And carry on into tomorrow's sorrow
When we're facing the ghosts of our destinies
Will we turn or remain in the memories ?
Choose to lead or choose to follow sorrow
Through life and loss
The rivers of soul are drying
The heavy cost
Of halting the hands of time
Through life and loss
The tired eyes of home are crying
The heavy cost
Of moving outside the lines
Intertwined

This song hits me hard, but not because of the original idea behind the lyrics. My brother got so excited at any news of this remake, as FF7 was one of his favorite games, or perhaps even his favorite of all time. He'd call me up and tell me about everything, and make me look up trailers on KZbin. He passed a year and a half ago, and never got to play the game he was most excited for. I can't help but think of him when I hear this.

I... don't know how to put it into words, but how this song hits... I'm not into Final Fantasy. Never had been. I recognize how big it is in gaming as a whole, but my feelings towards the song don't affect this. But... this song hits with what I can only describe as this mixture of sadness, and despair, and melancholy, but also hope, nostalgia, and determination. It has this raw emotion, especially at the end, that I can't recall any other song getting close to. The mixture of the instrumental and the BEAUTIFUL vocals, alongside the lyrics, makes this a masterpiece. I honestly think this may be one of the best songs you've ever made. Kudos to you, Gavin. Kudos to you.

dude I've listened to this all day and I'm crying everytime I stop to actually listen to the lyrics. "When we lose everything that defines us Can we hold to the promise that binds us And carry on into tomorrow's sorrow." That's just good poetry and can mean a lot for many people. It means a lot to me at least on many levels. The more I listen the more I feel this was written for us all, for today and tomorrow personnaly and globally. Best song of miracle of sound ever, and that guy wrote Into the Wild too!

I love the fact that when Gav says the lyric "After the wrath a bitter shame," he says 'wrath' in the way the last syllable of Sephiroth's name is said. Whether this is intentional or not, it is an incredible detail when paired with the scene of Sephiroth sparing Cloud that plays over it. Props to Gavin and the video team for including that, I love the attention to detail the Miracle of Sound gives to his works. Also, though I have never played Final Fantasy VII or its remake, this is my favorite of all of Miracle of Sound's songs. This, and its incredible sequel.

God this song hit me too hard, I've been crying a few times today listening to it. "When we lose everything that defines us Can we hold to the promise that binds us And carry on into tomorrow's sorrow. When we're facing the ghosts of our destinies Will we turn or remain in the memories ? Choose to lead or choose to follow sorrow." This part of the lyrics hit me the most because it reminds me of the darkest time of my life. I was only a couple semester away from graduating college, but one day I experienced the first biggest loss in my life. It completely shattered my entire life, my reason for studying and I fell into severe depression for a couple of years and fighting with the urge to end my life. I am extremely thankful to a few of my college professors who realized my grades were declining badly and I started to skip my classes, they approached me and tried to help. I am also eternally grateful for the friends I made online that helped me to get back up and move on. And most importantly, thank you for writing such an amazing song, Gav.

I instantly fell in love with this song the first time I heard it. It's such a beautiful combination of two drastically different styles of music in my opinion. The lyrics and vocals are so emotional and uplifting at the same time. It's like you put ice and fire together and made it perfect! Way to go, guys!

I start the video, see the first frame with Aerith and all the emotions coming back up. Damn that hits hard, even after all of these years. The lyrics are spot on, the tune reminds you of the old FF7 without sounding like a copy and the duet with Sharm is just beautiful. Thank you Gavin, looking forward to the Aerith song, despite the fact that it will tear me up even more then this one.

Honestly, I'd kill to learn more about the process of writing and composing this song. The lyrics are so meaningful and well-placed that I'm really interested in how they developed into the final version; they must have changed so much over time. It's not often that a song does that to me, but I guess that's Gavin for you.

I didn't think it could be done but you made a song that tops Machine Hearts as my favourite. The use of instruments that call back to the actual game soundtrack just tops it for me

The way you've managed to weave in several different leitmotifs from Final Fantasy 7 is incredibly impressive. It really makes me hope you'll do one on Final Fantasy 14, although that would be quite the time investment. However, I'm pretty sure you'd love the way that Soken (composer for FF14) similarly weaves multiple leitmotifs into his songs.

I had to cry watching this. FF7 Remake was such an important game to me. It reminds me of my childhood, when I used to have a PS1. Back on those days, I had an uncle who was 6 or 7 years older than me. We grew up on the same household, raised almost like brothers. He loved FF7, and I remember him completing it and watching as he played through the last boss fight. Sadly, he decided to take his own life in 2011. I remember when I first began seeing FF7 Remake being "leaked" and then advertised. As a grown man, I was able to afford a PS4, and one of the first games I bought was FF7 Remake. As I played it, I kept telling my wife how grateful I was for the sheer opportunity to play this game, and thinking to myself "I wish he knew how good it is to be alive, and all these amazing things the future had in store". Life's good, and life's short. Don't let it pass by you, and try not to lose yourselves. Everything will be alright, just keep hanging in there. Thank you Miracle of Sound for such an amazing song. Cheers from Brazil.

Yep, this song is a masterpiece. I always get a feeling of Christmas from it too. I never played FF7 until the remake and this song just nails the vibe. It's magic. ❤ I always come back to this, it's in my opinion your best work. Just bloody fantastic.

Holy Hell! I listened to this song on release, and it was great. Heard it today, just 4 seconds, and it all came flooding back even though I only listened to it once, and it hit such a powerful chord, of hope and strength and meloncholy, it's unexplainable everything this made me feel. You guys are just... No words guys, I got no words.
