Why is it called a mock rib? Is it just a 1x1 rib, that you have the braid effect on?

I've been taught to call it a 1x1 mock rib when all needles are in action on ribber bed and every other needle on main bed; a true rib would have every other needle in action on both beds. I know not everyone call that a mock rib but this is just how I've learned. 🤗
