Hey! That's near my home :-D I'm from Lugano. Very interesting piece of machinery. I'm always fascinated with such things, I am since I was a kid.

AMAZING VIDEO!! I would have been so excited to reach the top floor and find a ladder up to an open motor room! It's an open invitation to explore! Really enjoyed watching this, especially the many different camera angles. You obviously take a tripod with you the same as I do! Excellent video, gets a fav from me also.
@HeritageElevators10 жыл бұрын
Thank you! But actually i do not have any tripod. I placed my camera on top of a chair i found in the machine room, if i remember correctly. I agree and open door to a machine room is an inviation! You just can't let such one go :)

A two-speed lift; I believe the motorised switch on top of the hoist machine is what selects the direction of the machine, and the relays select the particular motor speed. There is a video on how the selector works.

For an elevator of that age it is levelling very fast and accurate. Bit surprised that it is still allowed to run nowadays without the inner door on the car...

interessting lift! Everything about it is... compact! The controller rack is quite small for relay controller. The shaft is very narrow, but it's hardly noticeable in the cab. Still odd that the machineroom is so easily accessable. Is it a 1970's building? It looks older. Interessting structural detail I noticed: The floor of the machineroom is reinforced with steel I beams, the concrete infill between the beams is probably not reinforced beacuse of the small span between the beams. That's a very old (early) structral system for a concrete floor, yet the roof seems to be a regular reinforced deck.

Am I the only one who feels that this old lift is like 10x faster than modern day lifts for some reason?

@@ComplexGrounds exactly. Recently modernized Butchered, was a 1928 lift in Adelaide Australia that behaved very much like this. But of course it was more vintage, started with a jolt, rode swiftly and roughly, though the buildings 5 floors an really jolted to the lower speed when stopping. Jolt, slow,then smaller jolt to stop. Made the lift, no faster than this seem powerful. Some of the gated, or attended lifts from the 30s in Australia travel at just over a floor a second. Looks fast, but still takes them less than a floor to stop. They're mostly gone now. Modern skyscrapers have lifts that go so fast they take several floors to stop or get up to full speed.

Awesome vintage elevators! Shame that it's being serviced by a generic Swiss company which means that this elevator would be turned into a boring generic in the future. It seems that the 4th floor used to be locked off, then when a new tenant moved there the keyswitch was replaced by a 4th floor button.

@idl3k_elev10 жыл бұрын
Generic elevators are elevators which are assembled from various brought in parts (rather than the elevator being design by an actual company who manufacturer it). They are built very cheap and often don't run very good. They are made to last 10 years compared to old/vintage/historic elevators which were made to last 30 or more years.

@MihalisNavara9 жыл бұрын
N.E.A. Elevators I guess it's the mechanism that activates the emergency brake. You can see these rollers on it going up and down. If the car goes too fast downwards, the rollers start jumping, so after a certain speed, the other edge comes in contact with this wheel and blocks it. I also guess that it drives the positioner wheel...
