Great video as always. How are the altrider crash-bars attached to the OEM uppers, it looks like there is a connection bracket but I do not see reference to this via your link to the shop. The shop just refers to the GS and not GSA. The clearance of the bars one side compared to the other after the X-heads are installed does not look good. Have AltRider resolved this or was your bars ‘out of spec’?

BMW's Cylinders are mis-aligned intentionally so one is more forward and out than the other one. It just has to do with the crank design so there's plenty of room on both sides with AltRider bars, less so on one if you install the X-Head. AltRider has addressed this by telling people to modify the instructions I believe on the driver side head that pushes the bars out about 1/4 of an inch. It's not much but it helps. As for the bracket, if you buy the GSA Crash bars from AltRider, they'll include a bracket that marries their lowers to the OEM uppers.

Here is a top down view of the cylinders: i.imgur.com/w37uaxi.jpeg yet the frame connects identically on both sides therefore AltRider had to make the left one tighter clearance because if they adjusted the bends any more on the left side, they'd be giving up strength. It's not a huge compromise until you add cylinder covers like X-heads which eliminate that gap completely.

Adam, I think the reason you don't have enough gap between crash bars and cylinder head cover protector is that the upper front mount of crash bar on the left side should be installed on the outside of the frame. See attached video at 4:20. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4Ddepekj6l5f68 Once you do that the gaps and the crash bars will be symmetrical on the bike.
