@@jasonneedham6734 the Dean Smith and Grace lathes David Wilks favoured generally have double row tapered Gamet precision spindle bearings at the chuck end of the spindle, when cutting away from the chuck you would be loading the side of the bearing that doesn't normally see much load, Dave's lathes were pretty well used by the looks of them so I doubt their bearings were perfect. A set of spindle bearings for my 13" DSG lathe cost about 3 times what I paid for the machine.

Hey Kurtis, I noticed you don't use wooden slats to stand on at the machines. My Dad used them as the springy-ness saved his knees and lower back from extra stress. Basically it's 8 or so 1x4 inch by 12 foot or however long you need on top of the same dimension of slats running 90 degrees underneath. Makes long time standing during long cuts easier on your feet.

A very famous US ProStock racer and noted machinist once explained the difference between a “machine operator” and a “machinist” in that a machine operator could operate a precise machine and still produce inferior parts while a machinist could operate a less than precise machine and make great parts. To me, Kurtis, you’re a machinist! Your skills and knowledge are to be envied.👍 (and I like your dog)

Well my friends. What a trip down memory lane when I was making ships engines. The main block and flywheels especially were the big shovel days. Some castings would lose a ton or more in chips. It was 4 or 5 days to set up a 20 cylinder, 50 foot block and redo the setups as the piece lost it's weight. As always you folk make great videos. I feel like I can smell the smells and hear that specific tone of the cut. Music to these old mans ears. Thanks a bunch for the memories my friends. I hope your having a great weekend my friends. I have to say though, my fake Mitutoyo callipers are far better quality & more accurate than any of the cheap ones I’ve had, but they get through batteries at an alarming rate.

Here's a tip, next time instead of putting the tape horizontally on the outside of the can, make a V shape with it from 3:00 too 6:00 and 9:00 to 6:00 flat down on the top of the can. It pors out cleanly and no paint in the lid groove. I think you are very good at what you do , keep it up. Old Men Andy

Perfect timing. I just sat down with a cuppa 👍 The video looks awesome so far... Keep up the great work Kurtis, Karen, and Homey! 😎👍 Edit: It's good to see that you are switching over to Mitotoyo... Been using them for years... Very reliable.

Karen and Kurtis, what a machining marathon that looked to be. Is that a world record for the amount of chips made from one part?😄 That is the most amount of chips I’ve ever seen from one KZbin creator. Thank you Kurtis for teaching me that it’s possible to run two cutters at once in the tool post. I’ve never heard that before. Awesome knowledge to have. I seem to always learn something new every time I view one of you guy’s videos. I hope you guy’s have a great day from David here in the States 👍😊

It's pretty amazing you can keep a high level of precision over the length of such a giant pipe. Having to keep changing the setup and moving the steady rest several times. I imagine there's quite a bit of sag with it being so long. Anyway great work buddy and great video!
