Oh, yours sat for 20 years? Ours sat for 50. Just started working on restoring it... fun thing is that a lot of hoses are missing, gas line is messed up. And we took off the gas filter. Sweetest smelling gas. Going to take months to fully repair. Not to mention the bed, old grain bed off of a... 57 truck. Most of the bottom has rotted off.

I have a 71 c60 I used to move my antique equipment with. It needed an engine and I transplanted a Buick 350 I had lying around, it has a ton of torque, longer stroke and smaller bore than the original 366 truck engine, worked great. The biggest pain with these big old trucks are the vacuum booster brakes, when they work properly great, but when they don’t it gets scary real fast, asked anyone old who used them everyday. I’m replacing my 71 with a 74 Diamond Reo with air brakes, should have video of it this summer. Geoffrey

Awesome! Yeah I need to rebuild the whole hydro-vac system, I was poking around at upgrades but most people seem to say fix it and leave it.
@oldamericaniron57675 жыл бұрын
It’s a big job but go thru the entire system, wheel cylinders, master cylinder, hydrovac and all lines and hoses even if they look good. I had purchased a running truck and would repair each brake item as it failed, neverending and dangerous. If make it all new you should be good for a long time if you don’t run it in salt and you will have peace of mind.

I’ve got a 63 c60 (I believe it’s a 63) sitting a barn at my grandfathers house. I’m starting my own farm now and that’s my planned grain truck. It’s been sitting since the late 70s when they bought a semi

@@RustyRescues That hydro-vac brake system is the weak link in all those old grain trucks. Not just Chevy's but International and Fords as well.
@RustyRescues4 жыл бұрын
@@jackbarnes9728 I hear ya, I've heard they work very well when dialed in correctly, so I'm on the fence about keeping ot converting to hydro-boost.

283 mouse motor? Bummer. I figured maybe one of the big v6's; 305 to 472 inch. Those are good engines. 283 not so much. Suggestion: Add a pair of 50 to 150 gallon saddle tanks, so you can pass one or two gas stations.

I'm not sure, someone else mentioned this as well. The engine matches the build sheet for the truck, 327 V8, so I'll have to pull the block number to investigate further.
