Hi Luke, The end result really works and I for like it a lot.Some comments I pulled the Instructions up just to see what other schemes were available, (I also like C, D) noticed that the outline of original scheme was still visible under the blue, but your version just works better IMO, 2.I recently purchased some of Mr Hobby panel liner and mine didn't have a brush with it, assuming that's how they come, a used clean Tamiya extra thin brush slots straight on to the lid. Cheers
@machmodels6 ай бұрын
Thank you very much! I was looking at the schemes as well and I think there was just so much potential that it would’ve been rude not to show more of that underlying camo. Yup! The Mr Weathing Colour doesn’t come with a brush (for some reason) so I just use a spare brush that I have lying around, but, that is a good idea!😁
@davidwinter51996 ай бұрын
The first batches of Spitfire Vbs sent to Malta were left in there brand new desert camouflage. Malta being a small island, and the intensity of the air battle meant the Spitfires were airborne most of the time. The desert camo showed up like a sore thumb over the deep blue Mediterranean from above. So the next batches of Spitfires were crudely painted in an improvised Mediterranean camouflage. Now from above they were much harder to spot by the enemy aircraft as they were climbing out over the sea to intercept. As you say Wasp, an American carrier was used to help, so maybe some paint may have been slapped on from US navy wildcats. Who knows. I assume all the stencilling detail would have been over painted. Aircraft still surviving on the ground also had the sand part of the camouflage crudely painted blue, so there's some Mediterranean blue and dark brown examples. The Malta campaign is fascinating if you want to create a unique looking Spit. Nice work.

I read that the Malta blue Spits were overpainted with any blue paints they had at the time....I always loved George Buerlings Malta Spit T-D (BR130) because of the mishmash of replacement rudder and engine cowls...By the way your weathering looks great...I'm a big fan of weathering models...

Your build is very nice. Eduard made a molding error with all their Mark I to Mark V Spitfire fuselages. They acknowledge this and provide a fix in the instructions - to fill the panel line on the forward fuselage halves. Unfortunately this procedure appears to be in most KZbin modelling content creators' blind spots as very few builds I see on KZbin follow the filling instruction. There is no separate panel immediately behind the spinner at the top of the fuselage - the top of the cowling is a single panel. Reference photos of Mark V noses (plenty available using Google or other searches) will confirm this. I only mention this as it's an oft repeated error and others may wish to build the most accurate scale model airframe that this excellent kit can provide.

Thank you for all of that great information! Hopefully it’ll help out future projects for all of us, and hopefully make people not follow my slightly bad guide!🤣👌🏻

@machmodels6 ай бұрын
Thank you, I very much appreciate that. Looks good, the pre shading in the blue came out well. Have you considered peeling the carrier film of Eduard's decals? It can be done easily with the assistance of enamel thinner. To answer your first question I use MRP-111 RAF Interior Grey Green for raf cockpits. Ppl who nerd out about those colors more than me say it's the most accurate version. Since you like mr color you should try MRP. It comes pre thinned and sprays beautifully, it feels like cheating tbh. Keep up the good work, look forward to seeing your next project!

Obviously great work from you, as always! This Spitfire really does have an interesting scheme, and something different than the regular RAF tropical camo or the other RAF camo. By the way, do you think the Mr colour paints would require any training if I’ve used Ammo before, as the Mr Colour paints seem to have some specific colours I can’t find from Ammo.
