Another amazing Portable restoration! I will be going through my own model 5126 out of storage this year, which I did PCB repairs to about a decade ago. Looks like I should do my clutches and trackball (I remember it having issues). As for the trackball rollers, what is the OD of the tubing you use for the replacements?

Would be so sweet if someone could come out with a repro lcd. I finally got a perfect one after several bad ones but no telling how long it will last. And they are nearly impossible to fix. And when you donuts probably temporary. I’ve tried everything. Zebra stripes, swapping video driver chips etc. BTW the TI 81 Graphing Calculator has those same LCD driver chips.

I think I told you about that silicone tubing on tinkerdifferent :) the way to cut it straight ( I figured this out recently on my xe book laptop project when I used fiber optic cable for light pipes that had to be cut straight), make a 3d printed jig with holes to push the tubing through and put a thin slit between the walls to slide a razor blade through and cut the tubing perfectly straight like a guillotine.

Can confirm, this is definitely the way to go, and is exactly what I did to solve my silicon tubing problem. In my case I have a Vampire solder sucker that uses a replaceable silicon tube on the business end, and I could never get it cut right. Either I cut it too long, or too short, or I cut it at a weird angle, etc. So I designed a little jig with a half-circle depression to put the tubing in, and a slot where you insert a blade, that would cut the exact length that I needed. Took me all of maybe 1 minute to model in tinkercad, didn't take that long to print either, and it works like a charm.

The HD carrier is the same as used in LC series macs.

Not quite... There are some differences. That is true for the floppy drive however.

Hi, I restored the exact same model last week. Everything works; there are no lines on the LCD, but the display cable is half cut. I don’t think it’s repairable because there’s glue everywhere. Is there a reproduction available ?Thanks.

@@LeSpameurYT backlit or non-backlit? On a non-backlit I was able to take apart the cable assembly and use old recycled ultra ATA IDE cable to fix it. Androda sells replacement backlit cables

Have you compared Androda’s hybrid with SuperSVGA’s? Curious if they’re both equally as good.

41:03 Can you elaborate more about that adaptor you can plug to the motherboard that allows you to connect a raspberry and get VGA? This means if a newer vga monitor fits the portable housing it could be replaced ?
