I think the PKE meter from Ghostbusters was based off a brush or something like that. I've seen really old laptop coolers used as props on walls in the Expanse. It's super neat. But for this? They had to totally make it from scratch since it's all 3D. But also- they had to know what they were doing, Alien was made around the time of the Microvision - near enough anyway. So I feel like they picked it because- it just fit.

i actually have my dad's microvision still, only have the eu shooting star for anyone curious: you can bring back the dual battery setup if you cut the trace making them run in parallel so you can have them run seperately, you just need to solder new wires to your input, you wont have the explosive battery issue, just make sure you add a 9 volt capable power distributer so you dont blow anything in the og board

Another little detail about the European buttons is that seem to be universal when it comes to languages. So the same console could be sold to multiple regions without having to change the language on the buttons. Probably cheaper to do it like that and just print the instructions in the manual than the logistical nightmare of having 20 different kind of language prints variants.

Milton Bradley (Hasbro) during the 70s had a shady deal with Ireland where labour for making toys such as board games and that electronic block game was most likely manufactured by women in laundries. I know that according to John Elder Robinson's memoir, the Microvision was having 60% of units returned as defective during the 1979 holiday season because neither the units nor the factories had any ESD protection, so you could easily destroy your unit just by swapping games. I’ve got one of these in my loft along with about 12 games. My recollection is that the original games had plastic buttons but the repeated pressing meant they eventually snapped off. Later games had a thin plastic membrane instead… I bought mine in the UK and I have both types. The early ones were buttons later ones membrane. Need to go find it and see if it still works 😁
