I cannot like this enough... not just for the fact that you did it and showed how much can be accomplished with super old tech, but the song, arrangement and mix itself is really great!

My favorite track of yours. This is so impressive, I can't believe how you were able to push this little thing to run something this intricate. Kind of shows how bloated OS X was in comparison to the earlier versions. I started on an iMac G4 with Garageband, and the thing would usually completely run out of memory and CPU then crash with even just a few plugins running. Keep up the magic

Sampling the built in synths was the best way I found to overcome the processor limitations I was facing with the 266Mhz G3. The minimum requirements for EXS24 was a Power PC 604 200mhz. I chose this as a challenge because these machines were on the very edge of the DAW revolution. I wanted to see just what was possible without it using TDM or other acceleration methods

You use to be able to run stuff on way slower tech decades ago. It sounds awesome

Man, I love when old tech is used for making music, great job! Where did ya get the software and those EXS24s? I wanna screw around and probs make a small track just for fun with the recent G4 PCI tower I got.

Good thing about Logic 8 is those songs open with ease on Logic Pro X. If you have any prehistoric Logic 4-7 tracks that need converted, I’d be happy to help.

Non capisco una cosa; i dati vengono elaborati e suonati dal Mac oppure dati ad una apparecchiatura DSP esterna?
@Arc.hitectureMusic2 жыл бұрын
It is 100% internal Mac resources. No external gear was used for this production. 100% Internal sound card, CPU, RAM, etc.

I've thought about purchasing a Powerbook G3. I see that they made a floppy disk expansion drive. Ideally I'd like to use it for SCSI use with my samplers, but also be able to write to floppy in the correct formats of my samplers. Just not sure how many os9 programs out there would allow me to save sounds in those formats etc, I've seen it on older Mac software though
@Arc.hitectureMusic Жыл бұрын
Don’t bother with the floppy method. SCSI is king with Macs on samplers. Best thing to do is use scsi on the Mac, use the floppy drive on your samplers afterward if your wanting to do that. What samplers are you looking to use with it? Mac supported most samplers via scsi
@Ancaja123 Жыл бұрын
@@Arc.hitectureMusic I have an MPC60 with SCSI board, and I could upgrade my EPS, Emax I, and S1000/S5000 with SCSI but im sure it wouldn't be cheap doing all of them. I have a Gotek drive on my MPC60 that I've never been able to get to work, and only use SCSI on that, file and midi transfer with a Mac would be pretty amazing though.
@Arc.hitectureMusic Жыл бұрын
@@Ancaja123 the good thing about the 60, is that the first SCSI partition is FAT format, meaning it’s accessible via Mac or Linux (PC doesn’t play well with it). So you can move files to and from it this way fairly easily.
@Arc.hitectureMusic Жыл бұрын
@@Ancaja123 s1000 will be the easiest to use via scsi. Emax will probably need System 7 capable Mac for Passport Alchemy 3. Alchemy 3 for The EPS via MIDI
@Ancaja123 Жыл бұрын
@@Arc.hitectureMusic ah ok. So Alchemy 3 in conjunction with the EPS would have to be done with MIDI sample dump? Edit: didn’t see your above comment about the 60. Thanks a ton dude!

Makes for a good MIDI sequencer or tracker based workflow. If you had a SB AWE or Gravis Ultrasound that would almost be enough to make a tune.

@@Arc.hitectureMusic thanks. They all sound tight to me. maybe my ears are too old. I guess you pick the one that gives you the feels. Which is your preference?
@Arc.hitectureMusic Жыл бұрын
@@mattsephton The ST can be rather slow if your using a 68000 8mhz CPU. 16mhz is a much smoother experience, that I’ve only obtained on FPGA so far. I do like using old Macs with Serial though.
