Just a Shout out to Australia from West Texas! I chased a Bulldogs A$$ for years and ran Macks for years and they are Bullet Proof!.... Very forgiving engines even if they have been parked for years. Two thumbs-up!

They were called an MCR here in Australia. After the F model cab was put on an R model chassis in 1971, all of the following Mack models contained an R in them. FR, MBR, MIR, MCR, MHR, CHR, CLR. All of these models were fitted on R model chassis rails. They were a really good truck. That one you saw has a 350 4 valve fitted. It’s a 1989 model, one of the last ones built here.

@oldrigsdownunder7301 Жыл бұрын
It’s a White 1955. It’s a 1955 Oliver that has been painted red and badged as a White. That’s what they did here in Australia after the 50 series Olivers. In America they were still an Oliver, in Canada they were badged as a Cockshutt

O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸 Happy New Year 2024 from across the pond! Was this Mack built in NJ or somewhere there in the UK? Can you easily get parts from a Mack dealer there or do you have to special order some parts? That truck seems to be in pretty good shape. I love old trucks & so enjoy getting to see them resurrected! Does this one belong to you or someone else? I’m familiar with air starters & I sure don’t hear them much anymore. What a great sound they give off! Thanks for sharing some tips, etc! Blessings.🥰🤩✌️

Great video. Have any gas B models?
@oldrigsdownunder730111 ай бұрын
No I don’t. To my knowledge there were only 4 gas (petrol) powered B models that came to Australia in about 1954/5. They were B20s. One of those B20s is still around today, but was repowered with a 237 a while ago.

6 seconds on an air start and always the challenge to get them running on 1 tank. As for the MC in the back ground brilliant. Where are you guys
@oldrigsdownunder73014 ай бұрын
Yes mate the air start is a bit of a pain when you’re trying to bleed fuel through injector lines. An electric starter makes it so much easier. I’m in southern NSW Australia, not far from Wagga Wagga

were B series Macks popular in Australia? Were there Australian Mack dealers in the era of B models selling these new?
@oldrigsdownunder73012 жыл бұрын
They were popular in Australia. But in saying that, there weren’t huge numbers of them like there was in the US. Our trucking industry in the late 50s and early 60s was only just starting to take off. The B model was the first real American made vehicle to replace the English trucks and open up a lot of the outback country. At a guess there might’ve been a few hundred B models sold out here. There was a dealer and re-assembly plant in 6-7 major cities, and a small number of local dealers at that time. They were brought into Australia in a container, and reassembled out here. The individual assembly plants were phased out in about 1971/2 for a single factory and assembly plant in Brisbane Qld.

The 2 plants weren’t far from each other, only and hour and a half. I wonder how long Plainfield lasted. And I wonder why it was used? Allentown must’ve fallen behind with orders at the time. Or maybe Plainfield was where they sent the trucks to be boxed up and exported

@oldrigsdownunder73012 жыл бұрын
Thanks Eddie, I often wondered what the significance of Plainfield NJ was. In those days, trucks were built, and then knocked down into containers and shipped to Australia where they were ‘built’ for a second time.

I find it very interesting American vehicles somehow gets right hand drive conversions for Australia and how thats would work is puzzling. Mirror component probably is fabricated.
@oldrigsdownunder73012 жыл бұрын
The RHS mirror frame on this truck is homemade. Most of the early B models only had one small mirror, but the later ones here had the west coast sized mirrors from standard.
