I don't think you have much to learn about a 12 speed sounded nice and neat from here mate , beautiful gearbox we had one in a 1985 R model with the 300 hp econodyne motor wish we still had it
@oldrigsdownunder7301 Жыл бұрын
Thanks Scott. They are a pretty good gearbox. They are well suited to the Mack diffs and engines, they make a good combination. Your rig sounds like a good spec

Mate thanks I really enjoyed that ride ,first your road looks as good as any here in SA ,those old Macks really sorted out the drivers in any yard not like all the auto,s of today anyone can drive today ,that old yellow one by the house ,I think they were a thermodine if memory is working when I was an apprentice 50years ago the government department I was working for had several on Drake double drop floats twin sticks only the drivers could drive them it was always funny watching the mechanics trying to test drive them after working on them crunch clash rolling to a stop try again !!!as I said very specialised driver skills ,ah the Road RANGER made life more easy didn't it . Anyhow mate great video Kym Adelaide
@oldrigsdownunder73012 жыл бұрын
I’m glad you enjoyed it Kym. There’s plenty of old gems here to take for a ride and get a Mack fix from. The old trucks with twin sticks would’ve taken a lot of patience and skill to drive on a daily basis. Sounds like you saw some really interesting gear as an apprentice. They yellow one is definitely a thermodyne. It’s a 1959 or 60 model from memory. It’s always a challenge as a mechanic to go up as many gears as possible in a short distance!

Great to have a new video uploaded mate, don't mind waiting. For a man who says he can't drive one of these very well, you do pretty good to say you're holding a camera while changing gears and steering the thing.😂😂 I'd say you do a pretty good job mate. Sure the new content will be good when you upload it. Thanks again and take care. All the best for Christmas and the new year. Norm. 🎅

Never new mack made the 12 speed with 2 sticks I've had a few but all had 1 stick at least I thought they were 12 speeds good to see you got some good roads down there like we do great videos Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄
@oldrigsdownunder73012 жыл бұрын
Thanks Chris. The 12 speed had 2 sticks in all Macks here in Australia until about 1980/1. I would hazard a guess that the Cruiseliner was the first model here to use an air shift cylinder for deep reduction. That became standard across all models in about 1984/5. I have seen a 1983 model and a 1984 model R600 which still had the second stick from factory.

Wish I could come and help with harvest a little. My 65 White has Cummins, electric start with key start and stop and power steering which is kind of ahead of it’s time for 65. More rattles than a millionaires baby, I like that.

@@oldrigsdownunder7301 I’ll have to look on the door for model number. If you go back thru my videos two years ago I have video of sketchy adventure getting it 300 miles home. It doesn’t have a compression release. I’ve have never even checked engine model number, I should some day. It originally was owned by iron mining company as a tractor pulling water tanker in Iron mines of northern Minnesota. That probably accounts for low mileage of less than 70,000 miles. Starts and runs great. It will fire right up on a 35 degree Fahrenheit day. It was bought on auction approximately 35 years ago as a collectible item. I’m the first one using it again and only to move my vintage equipment to shows.

I don't know if it makes any difference from the E9 and the cool power the dealership always made a point with the 12speed maxitorque to always take Off in first i don't know if it is the torque to gear ratio with the v8 or it's a 12 speed but i always start i the bog cog
