The MACK CL-350 was the company's venture into the off highway logging market. Remember MACK owned HAYES TRUCKS LTD. from 1969- 1975, before selling the division to the GEAR MATIC co. owned by PACCAR. MACK did not make it in the off highway logging market, and soon stopped making the truck w/ about 40-50 only be- ing made .The cabs they used were like the old CLINE & the first Int'l PAHAULER The cabs rusted out and were usually replaced with the PACIFIC cab.The power came from I-6 or V-12 Cummins along w/ 12V-71 Detroit's. The MACK E-9 500 V-8 was used by a logger later on when he rebuilt some of the big old HAYES & PACIFIC trucks w/ the V-8 and called them CHALLENGER 'S. This MACK only has one trailer, but re- member the trucks are set up to pull heavy tonnage.In some instances the big loggers pull 2 or 3 trailers. The hub reduction rears are rated about 150,000 pounds.

@@silasstevenson5566 I'm from the Philippines, where cabovers dominate but Conventional American trucks aren't rare. I usually see modern Volvos, Scania and Mercedes in the same roads with the old cabover and conventional American trucks and then the Chinese and Japanese trucks. There's basically every type of truck from the world still regularly rolling around working 😂
@jusportel16 жыл бұрын
These trucks had the same Allison as the HDX, but cable shift instead of air. Caused lots of problems. The Menzies Bay shop rebuilt them from the ground up, there isn't much left of the original Mack now. Notice the new cab? I understand that only about 50 of these trucks were built.

Hey thanks for sharing, I appreciate it! Ive never see a Mack Cl-350 before, awesome! Must be worth good money if only 50 were produced.

Looks like a giant RD 800, with an ofset cab, like the DM 800. Undoubtedly Mack made the toughest, most reliable tandem axled trucks ever built. There is absolutely nothing that will take constant overloading and abuse like the DM 600, DM 800. The R model series were a good truck ,but nothing like the DMs. The only R model Mack that could handle rough service was the RD 800. I'm not sure Mack even makes these models anymore. If they do ,they no longer look anything like the Mack's of the 70s ,80s and early 90s

You seem to be talking from experience about those Mack truck DM etc. Their camelbacks are awesome. Basically Mack knew how to make a strong chassis but also have the ability to flex as well.

@jusportel Yes,Torque is where it's at.A straight six has much more torque than a v-8.The definition of Torque as told to me by an old Diesel Mech is this:If you wake up in the morning with a piss hardon,when you push down on it,your heels come up in the air.Sounded good to me.It may not be right,but it's close,an funny.

Why do most diesel engines only get their horsepower advertised, when the torque they make is whats important?
@gms95512 жыл бұрын
l once asked a truckdealer why, he said that it was the horsepower that sold the truck and the torque that did the work

heres a trick to give you a ball park estimate, diesels typically make a 2-1 torque/horsepower ratio, and in the big displacement motors such as something between 650 and 1200 cubic inches its more along the lines of 3 or even 4 to 1. so a 600 hp motor its probably putting out 1800 ft-lbs of torque
