That '73 A model KW is in dam good shape for it's age! It reminds me of my first log truck, 21 years ago. I drove a 73 A model KW, with the original aluminum frame rails, & 5 & 4 twin sticks, powered by a big cam 3, 400Hp cummins. I LOVED that ole truck!

I'm glad the old W900 is getting some love thos old KWs and Petes are just timeless I can't understand why they aren't being used. The old Mack if I saw rightly looked like a off set cab design being a DM Model there was thousands of then hauling coal here in the 70 and 80s maybe a hand full of R models centered cab design and more appling to the eyes compared to the old DMs. True work horses.

Oh a 73 ... that’s the 50th anniversary if it is and was the same one used in SATB. You can tell the 73s as they had the gold and black KW emblem on the front of the hood perhaps this one was changed out or repainted though 🤔

Love these old trucks. Sad to see so many of them just put away in fields all over the country to rot. Getting a truck that's been parked for 10, 15 or more years started again is a great feeling. Awesome job!!

Just a tidbit for you Bruce driving a twin stick isn't like any other rig. You'll find out the hard way if you ever get one to run and drive up and down the road!! Those are real truck drivers rigs. Separate the men from the boys. I know I got broke in with a 5 and 4 trans Ford 9000. Good luck but I'd love to see you try one!!!

And a 2 speed compound reverse is left and up from neutral.

It's the Jack LeLaine (sp?) of transmissions. You'll get a workout! The oldies didn't have synchros, double clutch anyone?

It’s called a 6 speed. Main trans is a 5 speed the compound has Reverse a Low gear that is only used in 1st and a direct gear. You do get 5 reverses with these. The Mack quadraplex and Triplex transmissions have the main shifter on the left 6 speeds had them on the right.

He should've got a Mack instead to start with in my opinion....He did mentioned about wanting to drive something more challenger than a road ranger...a twin stick late 60's R model is the way to go. im thinking its gotta have a 10 speed but for logging maybe a quadbox. Id like to see him actually try driving it because i know he wont. Js

I have a truck just like this one but on mine the second stick has a low low gear behind the reverse gear then low then the high side

The Quadbox I drove had the main box on the right and the auxiliary was on the left

That is only on the "construction" transmission. On a true 5&4 or 5&3 the auxillary is on the left and main on the right and reverse is in the main. I drove a construction type and they are easy to use and nearly bullet proof.

Awesome guys Get all them Macks going. That 900 is a bit of gear Old school all the way Just watch yourself trying to tow start. Usually ya have to wind the brakes off to get it to roll . Then what can happen is once ya crash start ya no air to assist the clutch to get out of gear and no brakes and ya can end up running up the arse of the tow vehicle. Yip some will say bullshit I've seen it happen. Keep it up guys 😎

Those Mack twin sticks had the reverse in the Aux trans. I used to surprise people when I was backing up shifting gears. I believe I had 6 in the main and 3 in the aux with reverse.

Look up twin stick garage. He’s a hell of a good guy. He’s in Canada and he knows his stuff. I’m sure that Mack is a 3 and 5 without looking at it and just guessing. It’s honestly not as hard as it seems. It’s actually pretty simple when you know how to drive it.
