About 80% of my deliveries with wide load's were in the field. So, I started running wide tires on the front because of engine weight and that's the first place that would get me stuck. 41 yrs of trucking, I hardly got stuck in my truck's after that. With wide front tires on the hwy, they gave me better control on steering too.
@CaptainKleeman2 жыл бұрын
Man I was just talking to Mike about that this morning. The duals always stay on top, it's the narrow steer that sinks and causes problems. Hopefully I can convince him in some floats

lol....my property is on a road just like this and I promise you....all that traffic and back and forth is a dead giveaway to what is going on. Usually the traffic picks up on a friday afternoon and it is obvious the cars clearly dont "fit" the area. Plus, they all are there for like 5 mins, then gone. The real fun starts when you're outside working and you see 6 blacked out Tahoes roll up, converge at the entrance of the road, then drag race in unison down the road and up the hill to Meth HQ. Bracelets for Everybody!!!! Hahaha...

Thanks for sharing your adventures in the “not mud?”, entertaining as always. I thought I would never see you hauling clay again, glad Mike is a forgiving type, especially after he took in a few loads it appears. Going to have to go back and rewatch the clay clean up video and estimate if there was any additional breakage. I’m always loosing keys myself. I got a lanyard with a carabiner wannabe and put my keys on individual rings that I remove from that as needed. My only exception is my home key, put a recoil on that individual key and that is attached to the lanyard. When I was working I had a separate key ring just for my work keys. Was very easy at retirement, here’s the keys, see ya. Wishing you and your family the best.

Hi from the uk - when I was on a Royal Navy transport unit (anything from aircraft to motorbikes) I was taught to NEVER tie down the miscrient load via the fuselage/body, always tie down the tyres. The body will bounce on its shocks/springs loosening the tie downs. When we had an aircraft down in a farmers field they would create holy hell until I mentioned ‘compensation’ then it was ‘fill your boots’ so happy ploughing.

Primitive traction control --Add an regulated air supply (like a tag axle valve) to feed just enough air to drive axles to prevent tire spin, gently increase pressure and torque will change from mud to brake drums, I've used this similar method with a Mack tri-axle, they had the trailer brake connected to the drive axles but I had to guess how much brake I was applying And Yes It Does Work!
@markpeterson54792 жыл бұрын
I did similar with a 1970 Ford Econoline van, but using the hand-lever for the parking brake. After I backed into an uphill parking space, I realized that the right wheels were on ice. Just got the right rear spinning a bit and when the parking brake lever was pulled the spinning wheel grabbed the brake shoes and locked up that wheel. With some feathering of the parking brake lever, I walked it right out.

Mike, on that list, did you have disconnecting the low-boy and pulling them out separate? It's probably more work than what you did. Carry a couple of 2 inch pipes 18 inches longer than the width of your wheels. Chain them to your wheels for some real traction. You make good videos. Your voice is very good for narrating.

@CaptainKleeman2 жыл бұрын
Chains are time consuming and a pain in yh butt to install once you're stuck
@swallowinn44102 жыл бұрын
Hi Captain yes you are correct take this from someone who has mudded it more times than I would like to admit they are messy to install in the field. However they do work well. You would have spent maybe 1 hour installing them and driven the truck out without wasting the day and another 1/2 hour removing them. Now I put them on before entering the field and usually do not need them. But when I do need them the time saved more than makes up for the hook up and removal time.P.S. I am now past the age of needing it done fast and usually just let the young guys like yourself do the heavy lifting. The chains for tandems are not light. Have a great day and just maybe chain up first next time. 😉
