I’d say don’t be afraid to leave large empty fields, but for the levels of detail, blend the edges well. A lot of places will have clumps of daffodils or snowdrops or bluebells around the edge areas of greens like that.

I like after the first drop, the coaster doesnt even try to reach a similar height. It feels like the park is trying to save some cash and i love it haha Also, I think that the lower to the ground, the less and less busy it feels
@Nerdchacho4 ай бұрын
In fairness, after the first drop the coaster CAN'T hit a similar height - and believe me, I tried. The layout is quite sprawling and needs all of that energy for the end of the course, which even now, it crawls over. But yeah, Oakwood save money by building WITH the hill... We're saving money by building low.

12:33 Custom fences and curbs, other than the tmtk wire one, and shade structures for your benches will help. - Adding a nonfunctional drink and toy vendor in that plaza can fill the zone, and simple crates and boxes (hiding water hookups or electrical boxes) to planters or plaza are cheap decor. - Varrying the path texture for anything around the coaster will help break up the monotony of the color spanning the park so far, and make the zone feel more defined and gussied up for this flagship coaster. - Add a logo, inspiring words, or an emblem inlaid in the plaza area to help tie in the color scheme and mood of the coaster. The coaster is also "Go-Away Green", so that's why it's presence isn't as impactful as you're hoping for.

As far as natural empty spaces go, using multiple terrain paints can really make a difference, in addition to having some light overgrowth here and there. I use at least 3 grass textures whenever I build a park.

To make it feel less dense, maybe go with a similar vibe as alton towers? A bunch of rides cluttered together, then long sprawling paths through woodland between the clusters? With maybe the odd ride or shop in between?

Best way to make blank space is to place a blueprint to a compact coaster, put a simple queue and delete the coaster, fence around a bit and some picnick benches
@maskedbandit1024 ай бұрын
I think you need more park before you can decide if it's adequately sprawly or not. Probably keeping the foliage less dense and being able to see the ground textures with more bushes and stuff will help? I obviously am not familiar with UK parks, but if guess just lots of walking between "denser" areas would help a lot. Just unmanicured land connected by long stretches of paths? Either way, it looks really good, regardless of what vibe you're going for. That's another thing, I guess--sometimes your initial inspiration is what gets you started but it's not how the final product ends up. NNL was supposed to be low-budget like Holiday World originally, but transformed into Dollywood/Silver Dollar City b/c...that's more fun to build! Do whatever's fun.
@Nerdchacho4 ай бұрын
This is a very good point! Spoiler, I found some-one who has done a full walkthrough of Oakwood as a guest and the park is a lot more tree-lined and foliage heavy than I'd given it credit for.. along with un-manicured space; so the opposite seems to be the case.. swathes of empty tree-heavy (and bushes) space between rides. Episode 4 explores this a little and 5 and 6 are planned, so will explore this some more..

very good as usual, to make it even more jank you could remove the train crossing barriers so it's just a free for all, flamingo land does that

It's really difficult to have empty space in planco, but having different types of ground textures can help fill in blank areas with a few trees scattered around. It's even more difficult to ignore the guest flow type design but that's exactly how budget parks deal with it, there's no sort of master plan or anything it's all thrown together completely randomly, so paths to nowhere if you will are thought off as an addition to the park without having to spend much money and if and when the money is available they might shove some sort of ride at the end of said path. hope that helps a bit, but fantastic episode regardless.
@Nerdchacho4 ай бұрын
Yeah, your second point is the one, I think.. We sorta have to design jank around how the game deals with jank.. and guests... which require larger spaces closer together because their tolerance for distance is tiny (as is their "AI driven guest brain / view). Like, guests can only "see", I think, 24 grid tiles ahead of them. So as they enter the park, they don't know what is at the back of it until they stumble on either it or an advert for it. I think I regret not making "the park" before making the park.. As you say, they would slap rides at the end of paths, which I don't have because I'm designing that as I go.. In hindsight. this feels like it needed a Royale Myle style start..
@ginge_entertainments4 ай бұрын
@Nerdchacho The issue with the guests is a pain to deal with, but I've found that a random shop/vending machine or even toilets can help to make bigger gaps between rides as it gives them something to head towards. Plus, I've always found the making it up as you go is the ideal way to create very budget naff parks as that's exactly how it's done in the real world, granted its a very fine balancing act between how planco wants you to design and how you want the park to be. Having no real clear plan for the park makes it feel more realistic for this type of park
@Rollercoaster_Madness4 ай бұрын
I mean... the main difference is that parks like oakwood and pleasurewood dont use cattlepen fences for the most part. I cant think of anything at Oakwood but bounce that uses a cattlepen, so maybe thats why it feels dense... like it needs a more sprawling queue line with the empty space incorporated into those areas. Also maybe a field in the middle of the park just with loads of benches and tables and a large lake will help to spread the park out more and make it feel a little less clustered.
@Nerdchacho4 ай бұрын
@@Rollercoaster_Madness yeah, oakwood doesn't because it is really hilly and pretty much can't.. but flamingand and pleasurewood hills does.. yet they still feel sparce to. In episode 4 I've put in some open space and it is starting to feel more oakwood than pleasurewood hills.. abs prepping for episode 5 also has more open space. So I'm hoping that it is just because this is only episode 2 and it needs the stuff around it to be in for it to feel complete..
@Rollercoaster_Madness4 ай бұрын
@@Nerdchacho Yeah I'm sure itll all turn out well in the end, it always does! Flamingo Land's cattlepens are weird tbh, theyre kinda all just ramps up to rides but also Flamingo Land doesnt have too much dead space compared to the likes of oakwood, and the dead space it does have are kinda just caused by them leaving ride areas bland and the Flamingo 1 ride in the middle of the park literally taking up more room than a strata coaster.

Honestly, I don't think empty space is gonna be as much of an issue as you think. If you look at Flamingo Land, other than the Sik ride area which is just pebbles and concrete (VIVA LA PEBBLUTION btw) and the area in Kumali which is just grass the rest of the park is actually really compact, so I think if you just do what you've done with the spinner, leaving the ride areas quite empty, it can still give the impression of being open and having empty space, while still being compact and not leaving too many big gaps in the park.
@Nerdchacho4 ай бұрын
I think you're right. I'm already working on Episode 5 and 6.. and the space issue doesn't seem to be as big of a deal as I thought.. It is still there because I want the park to feel as spacious as Oakwood is.. but.. I also can't compare Oakwood to Pleasurewood Hills, Lightwater Valley or Flamingoland because, as you say, they are dense and compact parks.. So it seems that I'm not comparing like for like and that is polluting stuff.

Great episode as always. I have to tell you, I have always enjoyed your park builds, so I can not wait to see what you do with PC2 Have you thought about rotating the flume a little bit to bring the back of the ride and station further away from the path to add some space? It would leave the curve at the path split. I can not see another way to add that look, unless you add a hill effect, kind of like the waterpark, where it is a waterfall effect with land. PLUS.... VIVA LA PEBBLELUTION!! I have been so watching the Deadwood Dale series, and you seemed to get into my head. Because I was just thinking how cool to get 2 spinning coasters at the same time in 2 parks I have been enjoying.

@raysgames97784 ай бұрын
I like how compact this area is, but I do wonder, since your goal is to build a janky park, if maybe having some pathway areas with nothing on them might help that feel. Like have this area as it is, have another area with another focal ride of the park, but have it be a bit of a decent walk from one another and have just trees (no decorations) and such along the path? I've never been to the UK, but I have seen Oakwood in videos, and that is how it strikes me at times. You can see the next ride area, but you have a trudge through an area that is just seeming to be forgotten or that no effort has been made in in order to get there. I feel like that would add a level of jank to it where people go from highly filled, to areas where you can't even find a bench to sit on, back to highly filled.
