You know how some football matches are just, intense? Well, the Mackay vs. Bremner clash wasn't just a physical rivalry; it was a moment of truth. Mackay had just come back from a broken leg, and Billy’s vile tackle ruined everything for him. What did Mackay do next? Let’s find out in this epic showdown of legends.
Let's start with the legends themselves. Dave Mackay, a Scottish powerhouse, known for his strength, leadership, and fierce tackling. Playing for clubs like Hearts, Tottenham Hotspur, and Derby County, Mackay was a force to be reckoned with on the field.
On the other side, we have Billy Bremner, another Scottish dynamo. Known for his fiery temper, skillful play, and never-give-up attitude, Bremner made his mark primarily with Leeds United. He was a small guy, but his presence on the field was anything but.
They was always tension, but the clash of these two titans reached its peak during the 1960s and 70s when Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur faced off. But if I keep all the sugarcoating aside, this wasn't just about the teams; it was personal.

Dave Mackay was one of the greatest to have played in the famous white shirt of Tottenham Hotspur football club. The truth is he actually hated the iconic picture of him grabbing Billy Bremner.

As a Chelsea fan I can remember these two players well. Bremner was a dirty little bugger but always gave his all for his team. McKay was a very tough but generally fair player who also gave 100%. In a fight Dave would have kicked Billy's ass!

Regarding Bremner, as my dad, RIP, liked to say "he's a dirty bugger; wish he played for us." (Us was Man U.) But dad loved Mackay as someone who personified all that was good about football. I was thrilled to see him play live. I know from a Scot who knew him that he was sweetheart off the field. That he respected Bremner is all the praise that anyone could wish.

@@russhouldin5774 I agree with your dad (except for being a MU fan 😉) and his view on them both. There were certain players in that era who just epitomized sportsmanship. Bobby Moore, Bobby Charlton and Dave Mackay were top of my list of great guys and they could play a bit too! 👍

I was at White Hart Lane for the match where DM lifted up BB onto his toes as he had him by the scruff of his shirt/neck. DM broke his leg 3 times and still came back. A warrior of the times.

Bremner was a bad mistake when he tackled Makay but they ended up being friends

This shit is so inaccurate there has to be some AI-induced crap involved. 99% of the photos don't even reference the teams, players, or the incident itself.

My first game was Spurs vs Leeds in 1968. Spurs won 2-1 and I think Mackay and Bremner were both playing.

To be fair, Billy Bremner never squared up to Dave MacKay, he knew himself it was a bad tackle and went to apologies thinking that as they were both Scots all would be fine and was shocked when Dave lost the place. This was a quote from Billy himself. Billy admired Dave and was at Leeds their Dave MacKay...
