I think people still haven't figured out quite yet how to implement jiu jitsu and wrestling for MMA, too many fighters still train in GI and they don't understand the importance of adapting and adjusting to an octagon and manipulating the limbs for MMA.

Demetrious Johnson, Aljamain Sterling, Islam Makhachev, Gilbert Burns, Khamzat, Jailton Almeida (HW better be on alert about this dude). MMA is always evolving, but these days IMO there's many people who are extremely well rounded. Dern however is definitely a specialist playing catch up in everything outside of BJJ. Her striking has come along better than her offensive wrestling, if she could develop good shots (singles, doubles, high crotch, etc), she'd become way more of a nightmare.

Oh please. It was 1000% a put-on. Likely she did it as she felt it made her fit in more with those around her, but still a cringy affectation. She spoke english at a native level until like 7 years ago. You don't "lose it", especially your accent. At worst you might abandon your local accent and end with a more generalized one, but you will not sound like a foreigner unless you make a conscious and concerted effort to do so. C'mon now! Your vocabulary can get slightly rusty but it will bounce back VERY quickly, a few days/weeks of communicating is enough to jog your memory. I have personal experience with this very thing. I speak Enlish and french natively as well as spanish fluently. For the last decade, I've rarely used french in my day to day life. However, whenever I go back home and talk to childhood friends or people in french speaking areas I sound basically the same as before. Same accent as always, not some heavy anglo accent. Even if I havent spoken it in a year or 2.😉

I have direct experience with this, as I speak 3 languages, 2 natively. You don't go from being a native speaker to vomiting out grammatically incorrect sentences one after the other to needing an interpreter within a few years. Does not happen, unless you had some traumatic brain injury that will affect you in all languages. It is fully cringe, I want to crawl out of my skin for her lol... She just has to stick to the charade now because it would be too embarrassing to admit it. I have known a few people in my personal life that have done this sort of thing. I have a french friend who moved to Montreal where there are a lot of bilingual people with anglo accents. Out of nowhere, he started speaking with this same accent, all the while his spoken english was b1 level at best, with a thick real french accent. 100% affectation, 100% DOUCHE CHILLS!
