Hi there! I have an issue with inserts pls help! Behringer XENYX X 2442 USB it have master ins(erts) but theres 2 outputs left/right insert channel! I would like to use a Behringer MDX 4600 MULTICOM PRO-XL compressor in the master chain but I don't understand how the cables come together!?

Thank you. I was so confused about inserts as I couldn't figure out how the processed signal returned to the channel. Knowing it is an input output channel and that just having a proper cable has saved me precious brain cells. Debating between mackie profx, Alan & heath.zedi, yamaha mg12ux. Some of those cheap Chinese mixers seem to offer a lot but I can't find much reliable info on how they are to use

Hello, I’m a owner of a 1202 VLZ. Many years ago Mackie support helped with my little home recording set up. I had a pc with the alt 3/4 sent to my audiophile FireWire sound card and it’s audio out coming back to my 1202 for playback. I play guitar by plugging directly into a channel input and somehow had my Line6 pod Bean in its own channel for direct monitoring my guitar to alleviate latency with amp sims but my direct guitar was sent to the computer for recording direct signal. I can’t figure out how we had set this up and I would like to do this again but with a usb 2channel interface. Any input about this would be great. Thank you.

If you are connecting a consumer device such as an iPad, you will want to use either the Tape In (RCA connectors) or plug directly into a channel input with an adapter (For optimal sound quality we recommend this whirlwindusa.com/catalog/black-boxes-effects-and-dis/transformers-isolation-devices/isopod).

One IMPORTANT question PLEASE. I love your video's! Thank you! I bought the Profx12v2 board but find the main meters to be VERY LOW responsive. They barely light unless the faders are maxed out to full volume. My audio tracks are recorded normal volume (not low.) I'm only using 1 mic and audio player (no usb). I called Mackie and couldn't solve. You're an expert. Any thoughts PLEASE? I'd like to use my main meters. THANK YOU!!!

Are you getting your gain set properly? Sometimes sources really need you to get the gain quite high. Also, even if your channels are cranked, your meters will still be low if your main mix fader is down.

@@mackietv THANK YOU FOR THE REPLY! All my channels/gains are "Unity." That's why it's a mystery. I've seen other videos regarding Mackie Meters being low response as an issue. I was hopeful there was a fix. Thank you.

​@@davidhaines9945 Setting channel gains to "U" is often quite low for what is coming in. Try setting the gain closer to 1 or 2 o'clock, maybe even higher depending on how loud the source is (talking vs. singing). You want to try and get the "Level Set" LED flashing regularly. Also, one thing to think about is that the output bus has headroom to handle quite a bit of audio passing through, so if channels aren't absolutely blasting at full line level start to finish, then the main meters won't be fully lighting up. Hopefully, that helps!

Hi Mackie. I have an older anologue profx12. I'd love to make use of it. What I'm looking for is a point in each channel strip to insert an insert BUT after the channel's fader. Can it be done? I'm hoping to bypass the master section and feed 6-8 channels into a scarlett 18i8 but affect the sound source using the mackie eq, effects and compressor.

You can definitely try inserting the pedal into a channel. No guarantees on how it will sound but it won't hurt : ).

I just connected the PROFX16 to my Zoom R16 recorder with the plugs all the way in, works fine for recording but the signal will not be available for the main output of the Mackie anymore.

Kees den Heijer - that's why you want to take a TRS end and solder the ring and the tip together thereby sending the signal to the device and still out to the mains

Hidayat Yaseen To tap a signal out from a Insert jack and still didnt interrupt the original signal path aka Direct Out via Insert Jack, you need a TRS 1/4" plug and a TS 1/4" plug. the TRS plug(Insert side) you'll need to bridge the Sleeve to the Tip and solder yr single signal core wire to the T+R. the Sleeve obviously will take the shield/ground wire. for the TS plug side(to yr equipment Input) you just solder as normally you would, signal core wire to Tip & shield/ground to Sleeve.

Subgroups can be used to group specific channels together to then have their output controlled via a single fader (you'll want to make sure the channels are not assigned to Main LR and that the Sub faders are assigned to LR). As far as the physical outputs, you could use those to send a duplicate of your main mix to a secondary destination (lobby, cry room, etc.) or use as an output to subwoofers, delay stacks, center FOH channel, external recorder, you name it!

Not too sure on this one. I don't think your phone will have a stereo input and I believe the input within your phone headphone jack is looking for pretty low level audio (the mixer output is high).

The only thing I'm confused about is why you'd want to bring the signal into a computer using the insert. Why wouldn't you just solo the one channel and use the main out to the computer instead. Wouldn't that give you much more flexibility when you have an interface with only 2 inputs for example?

If you're using your mixer for live playback then you wouldn't want to solo it to just record one channel. Using an insert's direct out lets you still use the mixer as a mixer. You can also tap multiple channels' inserts for multitracking. Additionally, just soloing and capturing from the main outs introduces other elements into the signal flow beyond the insert point.

I have an old (US Made) MACKIE 1202 VLZ Pro that worked flawlessly for decades. My brother has gone thru several MACKIE mixers the last decade. Apparently today's China made units are far far far away from the top quality made in the US in the past ! Tragic !
