Spot on with tasting notes for the Svensk Ek. Couldn't agree more. There's potential but a bitterness that spoils the good work

As long as these distilleries listen and learn. Interesting series and looking forward to it.

Excellent ! Tough ones it seems for you...Honestly I like this distillery and for a long time we hadn't another choice of imported Swedish whiskies, but once another one started to pop up on the shelves (previoulsy named Box but now High Coast), I discovered there could be other ways of doing whisky there and sometimes purer than them (if I may say). Then for the other distilleries (over 8 !) it is hard to get them in France (especially micro distilleries) but will try soon some Smögen, kindly sent by another vlogger, and maybe some day even other ones. Cheers !

Very well thought out and funny intro to a new series! And good of you to give an honest review! Shows integrity, well done! What I like about Mackmyra is their cask experiments and their Moments series - they come at quite a price however. Will keep an eye out for their peated version!

Cheers Luna. I've yet to have one that I'd actually buy but certainly, the Svensk Rök is an nteresting whisky.

The beauty of Svensk Ek is that you have to keep coming back to it and nosing it/tasting it. It changes, it is unusual and interesting. The nose, taste and finish are all unique. I agree that the finish is it's weak point, black pepper. I have just bought a cask from the distillery (30L, 'elegant' recipe, Swedish oak single cask #2015, 6yrs old, 48.1% ABV, 58 bottles, non-chill filtered, no colouring). I like 'unusual'! Good review. Thank you.

I second High Coast, they're doing some interesting things for sure. Regarding Mackmyra: again a spot on analysis of what they have to offer. Cheers Jim!

I think I may have mentioned it before but if you get a chance I recommend High Coast whisky, another Swedish distillery. I like their Quercus series and Berg. It’s young whisky but it’s very good in my opinion. Great review by the way, I haven’t had Mackmyra in a while, since I wasn’t really impressed when I tried some of their bottlings way back, perhaps I should give them another go. I hear they keep their whisky deep down in underground in a mountain where there is a constant cold temperature, true or not I’m not sure that is ideal for maturation. Cheers.

Cheers buddy. Yeah I'll get to try High Coast at some point hopefully. This is my first tango with Mackmyra and I found it very hit and miss. I certainly wouldn't rush out and buy any of it. Was nice to try it though.

Always be honest. Especially if it’s a new distillery trying to get input on their products. Like any other kind of art criticism should always be welcomed in order to improve. Cheers 🥃
