These are just exquisite editions, beautifully made with cloth binding, gilt edging, often with illustrations, and so reasonably priced. And so small they fit easily in a handbag, all while having a good-sized and beautiful font. Haven't seen a collection this beautiful in years, a real compliment considering how most products have deteriorated over the years. (Many of the classics are complete and unabridged, but not all, so verify before buying.

I love pocket-sized editions! I hope you can feature more of them. As someone with very limited space, collecting smaller editions for my mini-library is a dream.

Hi Renata! I LOVE THESE BOOKS! What a wonderful collection this is, they are also so nice on the hands and are very practical to read. I think only the Monte Cristo and Les MIserables are abridged. All the rest is in full length, even their Karenina!

I was in a second book shop wanted to buy brothers karamazov and i find it but i was in a hurry so i buy it and left the store. Hours later i find out it was an abridged edition and i feel the anxiety because now i need it to buy the regular edition

I like these editions for their compact size. Some hardbacks are beautiful and longer lasting than paperbacks - but unlike paperbacks, they are sometimes cumbersome to sit and read comfortably. These editions are nice and compact to read comfortably, are well made, and - it is only a small thing - but I love a ribbon marker. No losing your bookmarks!

My favourite editions are the Everyman's Library Classics: They are very good quality for the price; and you get your ribbon marker 🤗 My other favourite editions, are the Library of America collection. I think they are also of great value. Some of the best value books I have purchased, however; are the Arcturus Classics Collection. They are clothbound hardbacks, that come in a box-set. I purchased Austen, Bronte's, Dickens, Lovecraft and H.G. Wells, in these editions. They are best value I have found. Each box-set, containing around six books in each, was under twenty five pounds British sterling. I purchased them from lowplex books and books4people, online. O lovely! I have 4 of these editions! Jane Eyre Pride and prejudice Moby Dick and Tender is the night of F Scott fitzgerald. Ik really love the colour of these books and they have this cute size and lovely gilded edges!

I think these Macmillan books are really lovely. I bought some of the Shakespeare publications. Beautiful design and very handy. The only thing I'm not too keen on is the thin paper.

@@BookCravings Can't agree more...Pherhaps MCL shoul publish the another version with faint yellow recycle paper,which would be more friendly to readers and I don't think it would effect on the outlook itself.Books are for read afterall,we want a hardback for better reading experience and collection value not a beautiful gorgeous vase instead,lol.

The illustrations for the book cover is really pretty it's honstely the only reason I wanna get them but i feel like they are too small to read and enjoy

The font size is really small. Even with glasses it gets your eyes tired after a few minutes 😢

The quality of the Macmillan Collector's Library books is outrageous. Great paper and sewn binding that should last more than a lifetime, and even then it should be super easy to repair. They put to shame most books that cost three times that. My only problem is the abridged text and the book size. I do not really care for pocket-sized books. I would happily pay twice or three times as much for an unabridged version in a more comfortable A5ish size like 15x20cm or something.

I was disappointed when I learnt that the Collectors' Edition series had been bought out and that the cover designs had been changed. I have several of the old ones. They are cheap but nice-looking. However, I found the print very small. In addition they do not save much space on the bookshelf, because they are short and fat rather than tall and thin. I would need a special book case for them.

I don't know if you are going to read this, but I'd really enjoy if you could answer. I looked after to find if this collection have notes on the books to help understanding the content but I couldn't find anything about it. Since you spoke about Brazil, I'm brazilian, so here we go: Essas edições possuem notas ou comentários? Hello! I just have a couple of old ones: Three Men in a Boat, which has very thin pages, and the little Fitzgerald Boxset, which is Ok but the design looks old fashioned and not in a good way!. I hadn’t seen the cloth binding and the new embossing! I think I’ll order three of them over for Christmas On a side note, have you seen the books published by Darkside in Brazil? They look gorgeous, not that expensive (R 35 sounds reasonable) and even appear to be sewn. Do you have any of them? I’m really thinking about buying a couple (tenho que aprender o portugues per trabalho :-) ) so I can hone my skills. It would be great if you had them and could show them in the channel

It's so nice you are learning Portuguese! I have some books by Darkside and the quality is good. My favorites are the Edgar Allan Poe edition, Frankenstein and a Biography of Tolkien. Oh, I've already seen them. They look very nice. There are few independent publishers in Spanish that print this level of nice, and most of them only reprint classics (with beautiful commissioned artwork, but I think there's not much merit in doing and re-doing the same collections of the same out of copyright books, instead of actively seeking the rights to publish current books with artistry). I think I'll buy The Dinosaur Lords, The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet and Psicosis.

I never liked these editions, neither the design (although the new one is better) nor the size, especially considering that you can buy everyman's library editions for not much more. On a side note why is it that books cost so much more and are of lesser quality in non anglophone countries? I live Croatia (pop. ~ 4 mil.) so I always thought it was due to the small size of the market but you live in a sizeable country and experience similar problems.

Here in Brazil books are definitely expensive, and the majority of them are paperbacks (but our paperbacks are usually bigger and more sturdy that the ones made in the US for example). Unfortunately it is impossible to find books made with acid-free paper. The publishers don't even know what this is. I've been researching and it seems that our biggest paper brand (that provides paper for the bigger publishers) doesn't offer this option. Brazil has more than 200 million inhabitants, but few readers, so I guess this is something that have an impact on the prices...

They look... okay. But a stiff spine, sticky gilt edges, and uninspired typography/layout pretty much makes these nonstarters for me. And of course, I would never buy an abridged book. A common problem I'm noticing in these releases is that they are often formatted with very little margin space. The type size can easily come down a point or two in exchange for more margin. My favorite aspect of the book is the size: perfect.
